HomeMy WebLinkAbout1937-05-14 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading Mass. May 14,1937 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Bancroft, Putnam, Davis, Brophy, Lindsay and Superin- tendent, Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Owners of new Texaco Station at Ash k Main Sts. appeared requesting change in driveway. To be examined on ground by Super- intendent and owners to see if changes can be made. Mr, W. H. Gilderson, 37 Warren Ave. , complained of location of home plate on Washington St., Park. Says conditions on field make his yard a dangerous spot. Foul balls drop in yard quite often. Doctor Brands appeared to consult Board in relation to un- paid bill of Sani-Wash Laundry now defunct. Building w .dch housed laundry has been torn down. Arthur Sias appeared to request permission for Boy Scouts to camp on Birch Meadow overnight a few times this coming sumer. Permission granted. Letter received from Mr. DeCoster of 14 Grand St.relative to sewer on Grand St. Letter received from Town Counsel in relation to Eastern Massachusetts Property on John St. Motion made and seconded to accept offer of Eastern Massachusetts Trustees of $3600.00 for land on John St, providing all taxes up to time of passing deed are paid. Motion passed unanimously. Motion made and seconded to accept offer of Attorney for Taylor and Stone of $1,000.00 in settlement for land in Hundred Acre Meadow which was taken by eminent domain by Town for the Public Works -2- Dept. for sand and gravel purposes. Motion passed. Motion made and passed to invite bids for painting outside of Beacon St. Standpipe. Voted to employ extra clerk in office. Voted to employ an engineer at salary of approximately $35.00 per week. Motion made and passed not to have a meeting on evening of May 28,1937. Motion made and passed to hold meetings on alternate Friday evenings only during summer months. No meeting June 18, and every other Friday evening Thereafter.
