Bancroft, Putnam, Davis, Lindsay and Superintendent h were present. Meeting to consider taking of Taylor Property in Hundred Meadow Section, off Grove St. Mr. Everett Stone, 135 Central St. , )Auburn, Mass. Mrs. Arthur W. Stone ) Nr. Efford Taylor ) Present Mr. Samuel Davis, Town Counsel ) Mr. 0. 0. Ordway ) Mr. Everett Stone spoke offering sale of property - w2,000 plus expenses of sale such as transfers, recordings, etc. Letter from Henry G. Wilton of Arlington containing his opinion of values of Eastern Mass. Rwy. and Taylor Properties. Mr. Everett Stone wishes to be notified of Town Meeting action at above address. Also Mr. Efford Taylor wishes same. WHEREAS, after hearing as provided by law and after discussion it was in accordance with the authority conferred by the provisions of Section 38 of Chapter 82 of the General Laws determined that there should be laid out as a gravel . pit a certain parcel of land containing 9.46 acres and located in Great Island, so-called, and owned by Efford E. Taylor and the heirs or devisees of ?'rthur W. Stone, and it was further determined that there should also be laid out a certain way necessary for convenient access to such parcel of land, runnin ; through land of . the Yeadow Brook Golf Club Corporation;. NOW THEREFORE upon motion duly made and seconded, it was Voted: To lay out and establish .the said parcel of land for tfe purpose of taking materials necessary for the I 12 .3 -2- 3/15/37 construction, repair or improvepent of public ways in the Town, and to lay out and establish said way for convenient access thereto, all as shown on plan entitled "Proposed Land Taking - Land of Efford E. Taylor and others - for Gravel Pit - Land of Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation - for access thereto" , made under date of March, 1937, by Davis & Abbott, Civil Engineers, Reading, Mase. , and cause such layouts with the boundaries and mea_=urements thereof to be filed forthwith in the office of the Town Clerk, and it is further voted that an award of $1.00 be made to Efford E. Taylor and the heirs or devisees of Arthur W. Stone by reason of the taking to be made for the laying out of said parcel of land, and the sum of $1.00 to the Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation by reason of the taking to be made for the layout of said way. Town of Reading REPORT OF THE BDARD OF PUBLIC WORKS ON THE LAYING OUT OF A PARCEL OF LAND FOR A GRAVEL PIT AND OF A CERTAIN WAY NECESSARY FOR CONVENIENT ACCESS THERETO The Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading by virtue and in purpuance of Section 38 of Chapter 92 of the General Laws , having laid out a certain parcel of land for a gravel pit and a certain way necessary for convenient access thereto , having com- plied with all requirements of law relating to notice to the owners of land and of a hearing thereon, and having met at the time and place appointed for such hearing and thereupon having heard all persons present who desired to be heard, have laid out the parcel of land located in Great Island, so-called, and containing approx- imately 9.46 acres, for the use of the Town for the purpose of i 123 -3- taking materials necessary for the construction , repair or im- provement of public ways , and also have laid out a right of way through land of the Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation necessary for convenient access thereto , running Northeasterly from a private way which extends Northerly from Grove Street, the boundaries and measurements of said parcel of land and said way as so laid out are as follows: Said land being located in the Northwesterly part of Reading, containing 9.46 acres, more or less , known as the "Back Lot" in a deed recorded in Middlesex South District Deeds Book 3878, Page 443, running from Frank Gray to Efford E. Taylor , and being shown on a plan entitled , "Proposed Land Taking - Land of Efford E. Taylor and others - for Gravel Pit - Land of Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation - for access thereto" , made under date of March 1937, by Davis & Abbott , Civil Engineers , Reading, Mass. , and being bounded and described as follows: Beginning at the Southwesterly corner thereof at an . iron pipe set in a pile of stones at land of the Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation: Thence N. 19 0 - 121 E. , a distance of 257.63 feet 'by said Golf Club land to an iron pipe and stones at land of the Town of Reading: Thence N. 760 - 531 E. , a distance of 204.00 ft. to an iron pipe and stones: Thence N. 840 - 19 , E. , a distance of 140.70 £t . to an iron pipe and stones: Thence $. 72° — 191 E. , a distance of 180.40 ft. all by land of the Town of Reading, to an iron pipe and stones at land of Lena B. and ^race B. Nichols: Thence S. 780 - 37 ' E. , a distance of 154.40 ft. to an iron pipe and stones: Thence S. 700 - 40 , - 10" E. , a distance of 168.09 ft. to a stake and stones , all by land of the said Nichols to land Of Orville G. Ordway, formerly of Charles Wakefield Estate: Thence S. 170 - 521 - 10" W. , by land of said Ordway, a distance of 634.24 ft . to an iron pipe and stones at land of the Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation. 12k -4- Thence N. 590 - Olt - 50" W. , a distance of 130.63 ft. to a pile of stones: Thence N, 640 - 378 W. , a distance of 9$.70 ft . , along, the line of a dry ditch to an ;angle: Thence N. 510 - 31 ' - .50" W• , a distance .of 157.47 ft. along said dry ditch to an angle: Thence N. 570 - 521 - 10" IN. , a distance of 202.92 ft. along said dry ditch to the end of said ditch: Thence N. 620 - 57 ' W• , a distance of 114.56 ft. to an iron pipe and stones: Thence N. 550 - 171 W, , a distance of 104.10 ft. to the point of beginning: The last six courses being all by land of said Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation: Said way is bounded and described as follows; CBeginning at a stone bound set on the easterly side of said Pumping Station Road, so-called, and at the northerly end of a curve of 140 foot radii noted on a plan entitled "Right of Way in Heading, Mass . , through the lands of Silas Henry Carroll and Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation of Heading, Mass. ," dated May 1931 and on file in the office of the Board o£ public Works, Thence the NORTHERLY line of said taking runs south- easterly by a curve of 31.72 foot radius and length of 49.53 feet to a point of tangent: Thence N. 540 - 46 , E. , a distance of 111.99 feet to a point o` curve: Thence by a curve to the LEFT on a radius of 170.00 feet , a length of 59.01 feet to a point o` tangent : Thence N. 540 - 46 , E. , a distance of 53.09 feet to land of Efford E. Taylor and others and the terminus of this the said Northerly line: Thence S. 62° _ 57' E• , by land of said Taylor a distance of 45.15 feet to the southerly line of this taking: Thence S. 540 - 46 , W. , a distance of 104.13 feet : Thence by a curve to the RIGHT on a radius of 210.00 feet, a length of 109.96 feet: -5- Thence S. 540 - 46t W. , a distance of 72.01 feet : Thence by a curve to the LEFT on a radius of 222.35 feet, EL length of 138.76 feet to a stone bound set on the easterly side line of said Pumping Station Road, so-called, and the terminus of this the said southerly line: Thence Northerly by the curve of 140.00 foot radii as aforesaid, and by the easterly line of said Pumping Station Road, a length of 132.56 feet to the point of beginning. Said Taking to be 40.00 feet in width, containing 14,970 Sq. Ft . of land, and to run through land of the said Meadow Brook Golf Club Corroration of Reading, Mass. Said lines being more fully shown on a plan entitled "Proposed Land Takings , Land. of Efford E. Taylor and others , for Gravel Pit , land of Meadow Brook Golf Club Corp. , for Access Thereto" , made under date a`. March 1937 by Davis $ Abbott , Civil Engineers , Reading, Mass. , said plan being a part of this de- scription. We award damages to Efford E. Taylor and the heirs or devisees of Arthur W. Stone in consequence of said taking of the parcel of land so laid out in the sum of One (1) Dollars , and to the Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation in the sum of One (1) Dollar for the taking of the easement of said right of way. This laying out of the above described parcel of land and of the right of way for convenient access thereto we hereby report to the Town for acceptance and recommend that the undersigned Board of Public Works be authorized and empowered to take by right of Eminent Domain for such purposes under Chapter 79 of the General Laws said land of Efford E. Taylor and the heirs or devisees of Arthur W. Stone and an easement through land of said Meadow Brook Golf Club - Corporation for convenient access to such land, and that the sum 1 of Five Hundred (500) Dollars be raised and appropriated for said takinE, laying out and the construction of said way.
