HomeMy WebLinkAbout1936-09-11 Board of Public Works Minutes -14 Reading, Mass. September 11,1936 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened ' at 7:30 P.M. Messrs, Bancroft, Davis-, Lindsay, Putnam, Brophy and Superintendent Welch were present. Application for joint location of poles by N.E.Tel.& Tel. Co, and Municipal Light Department for poles on Hillcrest Road approved. Application by same companies for joint locations on Bond St, also approved. Voted to sign a contract with the Petroleum Heat and Power Co, for fuel oil to be used at the Pumping Station. Voted not to pay Anthony Ross & Son, an extra allowance for the pay of the shovel operator in response to his request. Hearing was held at 8:00 P.M. on petition by the Municipal ' Light Department for poles on Fairview Ave. No one appeared in opposition and Board voted to grant the permit. Voted to purchase loam and seed for the New Pumping_ Station grounds at a cost of approximately 0360.00. Voted to purchase a Sargent Plow for the Sterling Truck and a Frink Plow for the Chevrolet Truck at an approximate cost of $ 800.00 Applications received and placed on file for a granite curbing at the following properties: Martha Adams - 10 Kingston St. Harry Brown - 64 Grand St. George Curtis - 58 Grand St. -2- 9/11/36 Voted to authorize the Superintendent to make the necessary ' expenditures for materials to paint and repair the standpipes under a W.P.A. project. Cost approximately (`500.00 each standpipe. Voted to proceed with the taking of an Easement for an old culvert between Haven & Gould Sts. on property owned by Sophie Chalfen. The Superintendent has been instructed to advise Dr. Brande regarding the water bill at his property on Haven St, occupied by the laundry, and to obtain Dr. Brand's idea of procedure. Voted to authorize the Superintendent to arrange for the use of three trucks and plows as needed for snow plowing during the coming season. Voted to authorize the installation of another lineofwells at the New Pumping Station. Voted to authorize the Superintendent to attend the meeting of the N.E.W.W. Association at New York on September 22-2)}, at a cost not to exceed $75.00 Voted to approve the renumbering on the following streets in accordanco with the list on file: Haverhill St, Willow St. Laneton Way Wilson St. Pineridge Road Woburn St. Priscilla Road Puritan Road Village St. Van Norden Road Walnut St. Board adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
