HomeMy WebLinkAbout1936-04-03 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading Mass. April 3, 1936 IThe regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7: 30 P. M. Messrs. Bancroft, Putnam, Brophy, Davis, Lindsay and Superintendent Welch were present. An Easement prepared by the Superintendent for the release from damages to the Town for a cellar drain connected to the Town drainage system at the property of Fred J. Emerson and Ruth C. Emerson was presented. Board voted to approve this easement anc}allow the drain to be connected. A similar request from Frank M. Merrill for property at 1 Bond St. Was granted. Voted that all private drain connections to common drains shall be equipped with suitable back water valves or traps and shall also be vented outside the house on the private 'drain. The vent shall be placed on private aroperty between the back water valve and the common drain . Applications received for the construction of a granolithic sidewalk at property #6 Parkview Road, signed by Philip E. and Mary M. Mason; 48 King St; signed by Grace B. Shepardson; 55 Middlesex Ave. , and Deering St. , signed by Fred L. Springford. Board voted that theseapplication's take the regular course. Moved and seconded that members or representatives of the various Town departments be invited to attend a meeting with this Board to discuss the desirability of constructing a Town Garage. -Z- 4/3/36 It was so. voted. Moved and seconded that Washington St. playground be seeded and the Superintendent be authorized to purchase the necessary fertilizer and seed, cost not to exceed $350.00. It was so voted. Mr. John Morris of Warren Ave, celled to see the Board and requested filling for his property because of the swampy condition in his yard which adjoins the playground. He claimed that raising the grade of the platground was responsible for the . condition. A delegation from Longwood Road appeared Before the Board relative to drainage conditions in this road, and requested that this matter be taken care of. This request was substantiated by a petition. Mr. McKenna and others present are to try to obtain consent for a drainage easement from Chapman and Cleveland or others and advise the Board. Mr. Arthur Collidge appeared before the Board relative to the approval of a lot plan for a lot on Summer dive. by the Board of Survey. He was advised that with certain dhanges in the plan the Board would probably approve. Moved and seconded that the Superintendent be authorized to purchase a road hone, cost to be approximately 6860.00. It was so voted. Moved and seconded that a Chevrolet Truck be purchased in accordance with the bid of the Laing Chevrolet Co. It was so voted. J -3- 4/3/36 Moved and seconded that a Chevrolet coupe be purchased from the Laing Chevrolet Co. in accordance with their bid. It was so voted.
