The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs. Bancroft, Putnam, Brophy, Davis, Lindsay and
Superintendent Welch were present.
A conference was held with the parties interested in the
drainage at Hopkins St, as complained of by Mr. Dagdigian.
Messrs. Lane, Esterberg and Dagdigian were present.
After an explanation of the situation and the solution
by the Superintendent, a discussion of the conditions was had and
Mr. Esterberg registered his objection.
' It was moved and seconded that two catch basins be in-
stalled on Hopkins St, to care for the water. So voted.
Mr. Frank Edwards, 21 Salon St, appeared before the Board
to acquaint the Board with theconditions in .a deed relative to a
brook along the side of his property, said deed being one from
Carrie H. Richardson to Dana Parker, dated October 25,1884. He
also requested that the brook be relocated within its bounds as
given in the deed and that the material from the cleaning be spread
out rather than left in a ridge.
The Superintendent Is to investigate the matter. Cleaning
materialmaybe left in old cellar excavation.
An application for a granolithic sidewalk in front of
premises at 5 Kingston St, signed by Martha Adams and Mary A.
French received. To take regular course.
Upon recommendation of the Superintendent an abatement
of $3.00 was voted on the water bill of the Transient Camp,

A letter was received from Rodney W. Long requesting
that streets in Westwood Park be accepted, sidewalks be laid
and water pipes be ins talled.
Motion made and seconded that Mr. Long be informed that
streets are accepted only under the Betterment Act. So voted.
It was moved and seconded that the Superintendent be given
authority to hire extra men as needed for maintenance work. So voted.
Orders of Taking for Main and Washington St., Sunnyside
Ave., Hartshorn St, end Easement for Drainage, Lots 87 on Winthrop
Ave, and 92 on Hanscom Avenue, were received f rom the Town Consel
and signed by the Board. Copies of same are hereunto attached and
herewith becomes a part of the minutes of this meeting.

ORDER OF TAKING
At a meeting of the Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading
held this twenty-seventh day of March 1936, it is ordered:
WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works of the said Town of Rea6.ing
having determined and adjudged that common convenience and necessity
reeuire the relocation or alteration of the Southeasterly corner of
Main and Washington Streets, Town Ways in said Reading, and having
complied with the requirements of law Pelating to notice, did on the
twenty-first day of February 1936, relocate or alter such public ways
accordingly, end duly filed their report thereof with the boundaries
and measurements of the same in the office of the Town Clerk of said
Town on the twenty-fourth day of February 1936.
WHEREAS, at a. Town meeting duly called, warned anddheld the sixteenth
day of Larch 1936, in accordance with the provisions of. law applicable
thereto, it was voted to accept the report of the said Board relocating
or altering the said public ways as therein set forth.
NOW THEREFORE, we, the undersigned, being at least a majority of
the Board of Public Works of the said Town of Reading, duly elected,
qualified anC. acting as such, do hereby, under and by virtue of the
provisions of Chapter 79 of the General Laws and of any and every other
power and authority us hereto in any way enabling, take the right or
easement to use for all the purposes of a Town way for the use of said
Town of Reading, the land in said Town, bounded and described as follows:

Beginning at a point on the Easterly side-line of Main Street, said
point bsinE%, North 140- 001 East, a distance of 389.71 feet from a Massa-
chusetts Highway Stone Bound- located on the Southerly side of the Boston
& Maine Railroad crossing on Main Street:
Thence on a, curve to the Right, having a. radius of 20.0 feet, a
length of 31.92 feet across land of the Socony-Vacuum Oil Company Incorpo-
rated, to a point on the Southerly side-line of Washington Street;
Thence North 740- 331 40" W. along said Southerly side-line of
Washington Street, a distance of 20.51 feet to a stone bound located at
the intersection of the Southerly side-line of Washin;?ton Street and the
Easterly side-line of Main Street:
Thence South 140- 001 West along said Easterly side-line of Main
Street, a distance of 20.51 feet to the point of beginning.
The above described area is estimated to contain ninety-one (91)
square feet of land, more or less.
The above described lines being more fully shown on a plan entitled
"Alteration of the Southeast corner of Main St. & Washington St. Reading,
Mass." dated February 1936, Board of Public Works, Philip Welch, Sutp. ,
said Plan being a part of this description and to be recorded herewith.
Any and all trees upon the land are specifically included in
this taking:
We estimate and determine that no damages will be sustained by any
person or persons in their property by reason of the taking to be made
for this improvement.
No betterments are to be assessed for this improvement.
The name of the record owner of land taken or affected is Socony-
Vacuum Oil Company, Incorporated, and the easement area taken is approxi-
mately ninety-one (91) square feet.

Ata meeting of the Board of Public Works of the Torun of Reading,
held this twenty-seventh day of Tdarch 1936, it is ordered:
WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works of the said Town of Reading
having having daternined and adjudged that common convenience and necessity
require that a Town way be laid out under the provisions of law authorizing
the assessment of betterments as and in the location hereinafter described
which is substantially the present location of a private way known as
Sunnyside Avenue, runninE Southerly from Prescott Street, and having complied
with the requirements of law relating to notice, did on the twenty-first
day of February 1936, lay out such way accordingly, and duly filed their
report thereof with the boundaries and measurements of the same in the
office of the Town Clerk of said Town on the twenty-fourth day of
February 1936, and
WHEREAS, at a Town keeting duly called, warned and held the
sixteenth day of March 1936, in accordance with the provisions of law
applicable thereto, it was voted to accept the report of the said Board
laying out the said way under the provisions of law authorizing the assess-
ment of Betterments and to accept the laying out of said way as therein
set forth and made an appropriation therefor.
NOW THEREFORE, we, the undersigned, being at least a majority of
the Board. of Public Works of the said Town of Reading, duly elected,
qualified andacting as such, do hereby, under and by virtue of the
provisions of Chapter 79 of the General Laws and of any and every other
power and authority us hereto in any way enabling, take the right or easement

The Westerly line of said Sunnyside Avenue commences at a point
on the Southerly side-line of said Prescott Street, said point being North
700-441 East, a. distance of 474.56 feet from a, stone bound situated at
the Southeasterly corner of Pratt and Prescott Streets;
Thence the said Westerly line runs by a curve to the right having
a radius of 20.0 feet, through land of Amos M. McLean, a. -distance of 31.85
feet to a. point of tangent:
Thence South 180- 021-00" East, by lanaof the said 1'cLean a.
distance of 111.06 feet to a, stone bound at an angle;
Thence South 160- 041- 00" East, a. distance of 560.66 feet
by land of Bertha L. Lincoln, across a. Town way knorm as Echo Avenue, land

Greenhouses, Incorporated, a. distance of 50.04 feet to a corner, said last
described line being the Southerly boundary of this layout;
Thence North 160- 041 West, P. distance of 563.47 feet, by land of
the said Reading Greenhouses, Incorporated, Andrew Christensen, and other lam
of the said Reading Greenhouses, Incorporated to an angle:
Thence North 180- 021- 00" West, by land of said Reading Greenhouses
Incorporated, an€. land of Willard P. Aaden, a. distance of 113.87 feet to e.
point of curve:
Thence by a. curve to the Right, having- a radius of 20.0 feet across
land of the said Adden, a. length of 30.99 feet, to a point of tangent on
the Southerly side line of said. Prescott Street.
The three last described lines bein„ the Easterly boundary line
of this layout.
The Northwesterly e.nd Southwesterly corners of Echo Avenue., at the
Westerly line of this layout are hereby rounded. as follows: the Northwesterl
corner having a radius of 20.0 feet, a c.istance of 30.20 feet, ane. the
Southwesterly corner having a radius of 20.0 feet, a -distance of 32 .54 feet.
The Northwesterly and Southwesterly corners of Vista Avenue, at
their intersection with the said Westerly si Ce-line of this layout are also
hereby rounded as follows: the Northwesterly corner having a radius of
20.0 feet, a. distance of 30.27 feet, and the Southwesterly corner having
a radius of 20.0 feet, a, distance o£ 32.56 feet.

The above described lines being more fully shown on a plan
entitled "Sunnyside Avenue, Reading, Mass. , Board of Public works", dated
February, 1936, Philip welch Supt. , andfiled in the office of the Town
Clerk, with our report aforesaid as a part thereof, a. copy of which Plan is
to be recorded herewith, which several parcels included in said land so
taken are as shown upon said Plan which is hereby referredto for more
particular oeseription thereof.
Said parcels are owned, or supposed to be owned, by the persons
named as supposed owners of the lost, and the names of the registered
owners of the registered land ta.k,n or affected, and the Certificate of
Title thereto are all shorn in the schedule hereinafter set forth.
Any and all trees upon the land ere specifically included in this
taking.
We estimate and determine that no damages will be sustained by
any person or persons in their property by reason of the taking for this
improvement.
All acts in connection with said laying out and more particularly
with this taking are done under the provisions of law authorizing the
assessment of betterments, and betterments are to be assessed therefor.
The area which it is expected will receive benefit or advantage, other
than the general advantages to the cornunity, from such improvements are
the areas consisting of the lots hereinafter mentioned and shown on said
plan which is hereby referred to for more particular description thereof.
We estimate the betteremnts that will be assessed upon each parcel of land
within said area as set forth in the following schedule, reference being
hereby made to said plan for a more particular description thereof, but any
inaccuracy in said schedule shall not be held in any gray to affect the

validity of this taking or anything connected therewith or herein
mentioned or referred to.

The Northwesterly and Northeasterly corners of Hanscom
(Private) Av.;nue and this layout are hereby rounded with curves
the radius of ^hich are 20.0 feet , having lengths of 31.42 feet.

Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading, in the County of
Pdiddlesex and Corcionaealth aforesaid, such Board being by virtue of
the provisions of Statute 1921, Chapter 118, the successor to the
Board. of Sevier Commissioners, do hereby, by anc, under the authority
of Statute 1909, Chapter 314, take in behalf of the said Town of
Rea.eing, for the purpose of maintaining„ repairing, reconstructing,
laying, constructing and relocating drains a.nd sewers, andthe carrying
of drainage ancc sewaE;.e through the same, with the rii)rt to enter upon
and dig up said lane, for said purpose, to replace earth a.nC_ other
materials therein, and to do any ane all other things necessary or
proper in carrying out the foregoing, and for every purpose for which
rights in lend may be taken by eminent domain under Statute 1909,
Chapter 314, an easement in, over and through the following premises,
to wit:-

1915, recorded in the Middlesex South District Registry of Deeds in
Plan Book 310, Plan 11, and being a part of the premises described in
deed from Minna Graff to Elmer A. Dykens end Mermet V. Dykens, dated
SSay 11, 1929, and recorded in said Deeds in Book 5365, Page 513, and
also located on Lot 92, shoran on said Plan, which Lot is a. part of the
premises described in deed from Horace W. McHatton and wife to Lula S.
Lewis, dated July 15, 1930, end recorded in j.id DeEds in Book 5479,
Page 288.
Any and all trees upon the land are specifically included
in this taking.

We estimate and determine that no damages are sustained
by any persons by reason of this taking, and we award no damages.
The scope of the easement as hereinbefore defined shall
not be limited or rendered less General by the circumstance that
there is indicated upon said Plan the works presently proposed to
be constructed.
