HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-10-11 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , October 11, 1935 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs . Putnam, Fowls, Barnes, Crooker and Superintendent Welch were present. The following bids for a four wheel drive truck were opened at 7:45. F. W. D. $4451.03 6 Ton Marmon-Harrington 4485.00 6 " White Motor Co. 4997.00 6 " Walters 5650.00 6 " 3790.00 3+-5 Ton 6 demonstrator Auto Car 5600.00 4480.00 demonstrator They were taken under advisement. Mr. Allen Sturgis appeared at the hearing under the Board of Survey for the acceptance of the change in lot layout. No one objected to its acceptance. The Board voted to abate the water bill of W. H. Gleason, 219 Pearl St. because of a leak in the service pipe. Board signed the betterment commitments for sidewalk of M. F. Charles, Lillian E. Sullivan, A1Tred B. & Elizabeth Pearson, Ruth S. Lothrop, Carl W. & Lillian M. Lougee, Henry L. & Margaret E. Noonan, Christine F. Atkinson. Board also signed the commitments for highway betterment on Chapin Ave. to all the residents of that street. Mr. Nichols appeared and the Board authorized him to change the amount of the water plant bonds from $35,000 to $42,000 total, -2- October 11, 1935 yearly payments averaged as follows: $5,000 for five years , $4,000 for Two years , $3,000 for Three years. Board adopted an order for pole relocation at the junction of Summer Ave. and Willow St. The Chairman read several communications between this office, the P. W. Administration in Boston, Mr. Rounds and the Tuller Const- ruction Co. relative to the awarding of the water plant construction bid. Board voted to award water contract to Tuller Construction Co. at $56,200, in view of A. P . Round's default. Board voted to return to Mr. A. P. Rounds his certified check for $1500.00 in consideration of his relinquishments of all rights as a bidder. Mr. Rounds appeared personally to receive his check for $1500. and also $5.00. Board voted to request piping details from each of the three lowest bidders on the pumping equipment. Board voted to send notices to the Assessors, Registrars of Voters, Telephone & Telegraph Co. , Municipal Light Plant, Malden & Melrose Gas Co. and Post Office Department, of the change in street numbers to be made Jan. 1, 1936.
