HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-06-25 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , June 29, 1935 A special meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Tuesday evening, June 25, 1935 at 9:00 O'clock. Messrs. Putnam, Fowle, Barnes , Crocker and Bancroft were present. After a lengthy discussion in regard to the matter of appointing a new superintendent, Mr. Welch of Somerville was called by 'phone and he later appeared at the meeting. Mr. Putnam read that portion of the legislative act by which the Board is empowered to elect and maintain a superintendent. Mr. Welch was then given a full description of the position. He was asked if he would accept the position if it were offered to him ' and his answer was "yes" . The Board voted unanimously that Mr. Birnie's resignation as Superintendent is to take effect on the 7th of July, and he is then to become a supervisor in the department at a net salary under the existing cut of $40.00 per week. By unanimous vote of the Board, Mr. Welch was appointed Superintendent to take effect on the 8th day of July, at a gross salary of $3300 per year, subject to the existing cut.
