HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-05-17 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , May 17, 1935• The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Fowle, Barnes, Crooker, Bancroft and Superintendent Birnie were present. Mrs. O'Malley of Middle St. appeared to complain of an excess water bill and sewer bill. Board voted to make a 25% reduction in the water bills at each residence and to make a re- duction of 2/3 of this amount on the sewer bill for the corresponding period. A complaint was received from Mr. Oram of Franklin St. against his water bill. Board voted to send a corrected bill equal to bill for previous period. A letter of appreciation was received from Major Baer at the Transient Camp for the use of the Town equipment. Mrs. Doucette of Van Norden Road appeared to complain of an excess water bill, the result of a frozen meter. The matter was taken under advisement. Mr. Poland, Mr. Bryant and Mr. Beals appeared to discuss the Washington St. Playground layout. Board voted to remake the playground substantially as laid out by the Planning Department of the E. R. A. Mr. Evans of 40 Howard St. went on record as objecting to the renumbering of Howard St. No action was taken on the complaint of Mrs. Doucette. May 17, 1935 The Board interviewed Mr. Truesdale for position of Superintendent. A petition was received from Mr. Dearborn, et als, in connection with the unsatisfactory drainage conditions on King St. The matter was taken under consideration. Mr. Killam was requested to see what could be done about receiving $1,000 from the special fund for the purpose of finishing the Washington St. Playground project. The request was granted.
