The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs . Putnam, Barnes , Crocker, Bancroft and Superintendent
Birnie were present.
Mr. Salmon, 3 Ids St. appeared to complain of the rusty
condition of the water entering his house. He seeks a reduction in
his present bill and also some correction in the condition.
Major Baer of the Transient Camp, appeared to request the
use of the town tractor. The request was granted and Mr. Birnie so
informed him.
An application for a permanent sidewalk construction was
received from Mr. Millard F. Charles for his premises on Bancroft
Ave.
Hearing on the acceptance of Causeway Road was opened at
8:00 P . M. and was attended by Mr. Hardy representing Mr. Sweeney
and Mr. Angelo Zanni.
Mr. Hardy was not very much interested.
Mr. Zanni objected.
The Board voted to lay the matter on the table indefinitely.
Mr. Althoff requested a change in the permit to one tennis
court, from those in Birch Meadow to those in Washington St. Ball field.
Board voted to grant the change.
Board voted to give permission for a transfer of pole owner-
ship located at the corner of Lowell St. and Middlesex Ave.

Mr. Melvin Lane of 87 Hopkins St. appeared to inquire
into the manner of renumbering Hopkins St.
Mr. Salmon appeared again together with Mr. Mills. The
latter told of many inconveniences and waste because of bad water.
They both expressed an intention to move out of town 1£ the matter
is not corrected. Board voted to abate Mr. Salmon's bill by 25%•
The sewer bill of Robert W. Totten, 36 Gould St. was not
acted upon and he will be billed in the usual way inasmuch as there
seemed to be no grounds for reduction.
The water bill of Miss Susette Berry, 23 Pearl St. was
abated by 25%.
The water bill of Ethel DeWolfe, 31 Green St. was abated to
the minimum amount on the recommendation of the Superintendent.
The water bill of Everett Bowie of 6 Gould St. was abated to
an average bill on the recommendation of the Superintendent.
The water bill of Mr. DeMarchi of Haverhill St. was reduced
to a minimum bill.
The water bill of Mrs. Rose P . Hinds of 107 Green St. was
reduced to the minimum bill.
The water bill of Mr. Imrie Dixon, 14 Wilson St. was reduced
by 25%.
The water bill of Mary E. Quinlan, 220 Main St. was not re-
duced because there was a leak discovered by the Superintendent.
On reconsideration of the water bill of Mr. DeWolfe, the
Board voted to rescind its former decision on the basis that in spite
of the Superintendent's recommendation, the Board cannot make a re-
duction without more cause than merely no leak discovered. The bill
is rendered unchanged.
The water bill of R. F. Lufkin, 189 Main St. was re-
duced by 25%.
The preceding reduction of 25% in each bill was made
because of rusty water.
For the sake of convenience in renumbering, it was
decided to consider Woburn St. and Union St. beginning at
Main St.
The E. R. A. Administrator, Mr. Poland, and his assistant
Mr. Bryant, appeared to discuss the layout of the Washington St.
Ball Field.
Board considered the matter of eliminating the dupli-
cation of street names. No action was taken.
Board adjourned at 11:00 P. M.
