HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-04-18 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , April 18, 1935 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at J 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Barnes , Crocker and Superintendent Birnie were present. Messrs. Fred Ryland, Bob Shannonhouse and one other appeared to request the use of the ball park bleachers and a truck to move them. Board voted to grant the request providing a man in the department will drive the truck. The entire job to be under the supervision of the Superintendent. A letter was received from Mr. Davis , Town Counsel, relative to the relocation of water main in Franklin Street. Board voted to seek an E. R. A. project for this relocation as soon as convenient. A letter was received from Mr. Davis relative to the suit of Sophie Chalfin which was turned over to the Superintendent. Mr. George Abbott of the Reading Rubber Co. expressed thanks for the loan of the town drag. A letter was received from the School Department accepting the Board's suggested schedule for the use of the town tennis courts. A letter was received from Mr. Davis , Town Counsel, relative to the claim of Mrs. Gertrude Swensen for land taking. The matter was referred to the Superintendent. A letter was received from Mr. Davis informing the Board that the statement of water liens covering the property of Walter C. White et als, has been filed in the Registry of Deeds. Mr. & Mrs . Lawrence H. Buck appeared to inquire into the method -2- of street renumbering. Mr. Hugh Eames was also present. A letter was received from the Chairman of the Finance Committee, informing the Board that the committee cannot meet Thursday evening and that a meeting will be arranged the week of April 21. Miss Helen A. Brown, Mr. William Badger and Mr. Truesdale Fife appeared to discuss the matter of sewer assessments. No further action was taken by the Board in this connection. The Board discussed the revisions being made in the Washing- ton St. Ball field, and the approximate locations of drinking fountains were indicated. It was temporarily decided to make the entering walk to the ball field 15 ft. wide. The Board voted to change the name of that section of County Road from Howard St. to the sharp angle in County Road to Howard St. Members Present: Harold W. Putnam, Ch. , A. Crocker, Jr. Whereas after a public hearing, wherein no one appeared in opposition thereto, and after discussion, it was determined and adjudged by this Board that public convenience and necessity require, that the name of the public way now known as County Road be changed, it was, upon motion duly made and seconded, voted to adopt the following order; 0 R D E R E Dg That the name of County Road extending 329.00 Ft. from Howard St. to Angle in County Road be and is hereby changed to, and shall hereafter be known as, Howard St. , and that such order authorizing such change of name, be duly signed by the Board, and filed in the Office of the Town Clerk of Reading.
