HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-02-08 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , Feb. 8, 1935 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 9:30 P. M. Messrs . Putnam, Fairclough, Fowls, Barnes , Crocker and Superintendent Birnie were present. Mr. Hugh Eames, Mr. Totten and Mr. Moran appeared at the hearing on street renumbering and no objections were raised. Mrs. Florence Wiberg and her son appeared at the hear- ing on the relocation of the corner of Willow and West St. No definite objections were raised. However, Mrs. Wiberg wishes to talk with the Superintendent later on when the ground is clear. Mr. and Mrs. Manning appeared at the hearing on the re- location of the corner of Bancroft Ave. and Lowell St. No objections raised. - Mr. Henry S. Blethen appeared at the hearing on the re- numbering of Federal St. No objections raised. Mr. Elmer Batchelder appeared at the relocation of Franklin St. No objections raised. Mrs . Mary Emerson and Mr. and Mrs . Harold Batchelder also appeared. There were no objections, but there were the following stipulations: Mrs . Emerson is to have a new subdivision made of bar land and a plan made of the same, also the large tree in front of her house is to be left untouched and the street line is to either pass through the tree or in front of it. Feb. 8, 1935. ' Mr. and Mrs . Harold Batchelder are to be given the three measure- ments, one from the center of their house to the street line and two others from iron pipes set in the lot lines on each side of the property. The following persons appeared at the hearing on Grove St. relocation: Mrs. Beaton, Mr. Raymond Adams , Mr. Frank Bessom, Mr. Charles Simpson, Mr. Stevens, Mr. Becker, Mr. Emerson, Mr. Zanni and Mr. E. S. Libby. There were no objections raised. Mr. W. A. Boulter appeared relative to a $400.00 Better- ment Assessment on his property on the corner of Van Norden Rd. and Forest St. Mr. Weston and Mr. Strout appeared relative to the town water supply. Mr. Weston has made a preliminary survey and finds that the water supply contains large quantities of iron and car- bonic acid. He will make a more thorough investigation during the week for the sum of $125.00 and report progress next week. Petition for residents of Pearl St. requesting work be done on said street to improve condition. Board votedto lay on table until next week. A memo received from A. L. Leman concerning Mineral Street bridge. Matter was laid on table until next week. A communication and catalogue received from the S. M. Spencer Manfg. Co. concerning house numbers. The matter was laid on the table until next meeting. Letter received from the E. R. A. Administrator, Arthur G. Rotch, concerning snow removal. Board voted to remove two poles on Woburn St. Letter received from Mrs. Mabel Thompson, request- ing reduction in her water bill because of discoloration. Voted to reduce her bill to the average of her previous bills. Complaint received from Mr. A. M. Waugh of Copeland Ave. concerning water discoloration. Board voted to reduce water and sewer bill by 33 1/3%. Board voted to accept layout of Winthrop Ave. Board voted to lay on table information relating to ash collection. A petition was received from the residents of Winthrop Ave. that the street be improved under the Betterment Act. Received and acknowledged. Board adjourned 2:01 A.M.
