HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-01-25 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , January 25, 1935 ' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was called to order at 7:35 P . M. Messrs . Putnam, Fowle, Fairclough, Crocker and Supt. Birnie were present. Records of previous meeting read by Mr. Fowle. Voted to send a letter of appreciation to Mishawam Asso- ciation for invitation to Concert and Moving Pictures . Plan of Reading Square including report designed by Gov- ernor's Committee on $25,000 estimated cost, laid on table. Letter from E. R. A. Administration office concerning snow removal noted. Same not permissable. No action. Letter from Board of Selectmen advising that Federal Government may finance large Municipal Public Works projects , finan- cing both labor and materials under construction. Hearing on Laying out of Colburn Road. Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. LeFave and Mr. Luce came representing many abuttors. Plan with description signed by Board as no disapproval made manifest. Letter and articles for Town Warrant received from Town Counsel. Letter concerning title to property on West and Willow St. received from Town Counsel. Letter stating hearings on Woburn & Lowell St, projects set for Tuesday February 19, received from County Commission. Voted abatement of $20.00 granted Helen F. & John Cornell provided they sign agreement that they will make no further claim for damages by reason of takings on Van Norden Road. -2- January 25, 1935. Letter to be written to Helen F. & J. Cornell per above. r Contract replacing present gas contract received. Municipal Light Board and Board of Selectmen to be contacted before signing. Letter from Merrit A. Powers requesting adjustment of January 1, 1935 water bill received. Voted no adjustment. Letter to be written advising him, and calling attention to the time meter was out, and that bill is less than his average bill. Voted to purchase plow for Sewer truck not to exceed $225.00, total cost. Voted payment of bill of Alice R. White, by bank, be not returned to bank as requested. Voted request of Julia Noyes for adjustment of Jan. 1, 1935 ' water bill be denied and that Mrs. Noyes be notified by mail of de- cision, calling attention to fact that amount of bill is about average of previous bills. Discussion of new Demand Notice - Voted to approve 500 copies to be ordered by Superintendent at once. Report of Superintendent advising test made of water at #2 Station and following outlets: William Dennison, 10 Copeland Ave. Neil Mills 2 Wilson Rd. L. Lyons 3 Vale Rd. Police Station Pleasant St. Fire Station Pleasant St. James B. "Donnelly Cor. Wilson & Pleasant St. (copper tubing) Board adjourned 10:35 P. M. , Secretary Pro Tem
