HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-01-18 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , January 18, 1935. ' The regular meeting of. the Board of Public 'Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Fowls, Barnes , Crooker and Superintendent Birnie were present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved on the condition that the verbatim report of the Finance Committee conference be set apart from the formal minutes. A letter was received from the Boston Office of the F.E.R.A. urging all boards to appropriate sufficient funds to carry on E. R. A. work at greatest efficiency. A letter was received from the Home Owners ' Loan Corp. con- cerning water liens on property mortgaged by them. A letter was received from the Asst. Administrator of E.R.A. requesting that the street numbering be started on Main St. Mr. Mansfield appeared to protest the layout of Franklin St. on the ground that a greater cut into his land is being made than he was given to understand. Mr. Piper, Mr. Dean, Sr. & Jr. , Adelbert E. Batchelder, Melvin L. Stevens, B. Inez Sias & Wilbur Sias appeared at a hearing on the changing of the name of Pearl St. from the point of inter- section with Main St. and northerly. All present were opposed to the change. The sub-committee of the Finance Committee appeared to con- tinue the discussion of the budget of last Friday. -2- January 18, 1935 Received a notice that the Board of Health cannot meet with this Board. Voted to lay on the table the matter of changing name of Pearl St. Application received for banner to be placed across Haven St. Voted that Superintendent take care of the matter.
