HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-12-28 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass . , Dec. 28, 1934 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Fairclough, Barnes, Fowle and Superintendent Birnie were present. Mr. Cornel and father appeared to protest the taking of land at the corner of Forest St. and Van Norden Rd. Mr. Cornel states that he will settle for $20.00. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. T'^,e Town Counsel, Mr. Davis , was consulted as to the pro- cedure in Mr. Cornelis case. He advised that Mr. Cornel be re- quested to turn in a claim for $20.00 in writing to the Board of Public Works and that it then be turned over to the Law Committee. On second thought the Counsel advised we withhold action until next Friday when it may be possible to settle the matter more easily. The Superintendent submitted a draft of a notice to go in the Chronicle regarding night parking on highways during snow- storms. It was returned to him for revision. A request was received from Miss Florence Nichols, 29 Pres- cott St. to cover the open ditch running through her property from Woburn St. to Prescott St. The Board voted to write Miss Nichols telling her that the matter is under advisement. A letter was received from the Men' s Forum, Unitarian Church of Reading expressing themselves in favor of immediate or -2- Study of the sidewalk condition in the town preparatory to setting up a progressive program of granolithic sidewalk con- struction. A letter acknowledging receipt was forwarded to the Men's Forum. A request was received from Mr. Fred F. Smith regarding a water payment of $5.00 made by him on a property at Van Norden Rd. which he now wishes to transfer to another account. No action was taken. Mr. Bryant appeared to consult with the Board. The first matter taken up was the inefficiency of park and playground work during cold weather.
