HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-12-21 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , Dec. 21, 1934. The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P . M. Messrs. Putnam, Crocker, Barnes, Fairclough and Superintendent Birnie were present. Opening and reading of bids on 5,000 ft. of water pipe was the Board's first action. The following companies quoted: U. S . Pipe & Foundry Co. 12 or 18 ft. lengths .70¢ per ft. f. o. b. cars, Reading, net cash 30 days Fred A. Houdlette - 16 ft. lengths .78¢ " " f. o. b. cars , Reading R. D. Wood Co. - 161 ft. lengths .75¢ " " f. o. b. cars, Reading Warren Pipe Co. - 16� ft. lengths .74¢ " " f. o. b. cars , Reading The Board voted to award the business to the low bidder, U. S. Pipe & Foundry Co. - $3500, 70¢ per ft. Board voted to approve the submitting of a project to the E. R. A. administrator covering excavation of ditch in Birch Meadow from ditch already existing and toward Hillside Road. Board voted to apply to E. R. A. Adtinistrator for labor for water in County Road. The Chairman read aloud the list of owners, together with the names of the mortgagees, who will be notified on Dec. 26, 1934, of the liening procedure on their property. The matter of raising the salaries of the employees of the Department to the former level was discussed. The Board went on record as approving that action providing the same is done in other depart- ments. -2- Dec. 21, 1934• Superintendent was requested to place in the Chronicle a notice to the effect that cars must not be parked on streets after dark during a heavy snow storm. Water bills and shut off notices were discussed. Revisions were made in the demand notice which will be made up in printed form for next meeting. Board voted to prepare fittings for 12 swings ; 6 at Birch Meadow and 6 at Washington St. Playground, also 4 see saws . Board voted to set aside the unexpended balance in the Public Works Department Account of approximately $73.00 for the pur- pose of purchasing shrubs. Board adjourned at 10:30 P. M.
