HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-09-14 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , Sept. 14, 1934. The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Mr. Putnam, Mr. Fowls, Mr. Fairclough, Mr. Barnes, Mr. Crocker and Superintendent Birnie were present. The first hearing under the Board of Survey on the ex- tension of Pinevale Ave. was reopened. Mr. Thorn, Mr. Lindquist, Mr. Hall, Mr. MacMillan and Mrs. MacMillan were present. After a long discussion the plan as originally presented was approved. Mr. Sias appeared to inquire as to the advisability of asking for bids on the sidewalk construction on Haven St. He was assured that it would be advisable. Mr. Murphy of the Coast and Geodedic Survey appeared relative to the continuation of an E.R.A. project on the establish- ment of -triangulation points. The Board voted to confirm by letter a former verbal request to Mr. Houdlette for the continuation of this project. Mr. Early of 3 Wells Road appeared asking for a reduction in the bill for the repair of his water service. The Board voted to reduce the bill in the matter of supervision from 9 hrs. to 3 hrs. i and request immediate payment. A communication was received from the Town Counsel including a lot plan of property at the corner of Auburn St. and Parkview Rd. and a bill from the Registry of Deeds for recording. r i r -2- Sept. 14, 1934. ' The Board voted to revise Mr. Dana Perkins water bill and send him a corrected bill. The Board voted to relocate the corners of Deering and Lowell St. and that the relocation be done in the usual manner. The cost of maintaining hydrants was investigated. It was agreed that $10.00 would cover the interest on the money invested and the cost of water used at fires. Board voted to install water to the residence of Mr. Mac Millan on Pinevale Ave. Extension. Work to begin Monday morning. Board voted to make the sewer installation on Linden St. as per. plan presented. ' A letter was received from the Home Loan Owners Corp. regarding status case of Frank Cannuli. Placed on file. Letter was received from E. R. Administration Headquarters requesting Board to hire only trucks which have been registered under Trucking Code. Letter received from Mr. Arthur Scott of 11 Ridge Road, requesting oil treatment on road surface in front of his house. Superintendent will apply the usual oil treatment. A report from the State Department of Public Health on the Reading water supply was received. The water supply seems to be in good condition. Board approved an order of taking on Pilgrim Rd. for the purpose of making a water installation. ' In connection with the undesirable condition of the steps at the residence of Mr. Leach on Hopkins St. the Board voted to make -3- Sept. 14, 1934. the necessary repairs. A reduction in the water rates was considered. A new schedule was proposed but before taking any definite action it was decided that the Superintendent should ascertain the difference in income caused by the new schedule. The County hearing at which highway improvements may suggested will be held within a few weeks. The Board considered several projects among them Lowell St. , Woburn St. , Willow Rd. , Main St. , and Pearl St. The Superintendent was asked to make approx- imate estimates. The Board approved the location of gas mains in Indiana, California and Pinevale Ave. The layout of Washington St. Park was thoroughly investigated.
