HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-08-28 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , August 28, 1934. Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:45 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Fairclough, Fowls, Barnes, Crocker and Superintendent Birnie were present. Bids on crushed stone for West St. were opened at 7:45 P. M. Mr. McLaughlin representing Malden Crushed Stone Co. , and Mr. James Watson representing Concrete Materials Co. were present. Bids were opened on the oil contracts for West St. and of the six bids received there was no difference in price or conditions of sale. Mr. Davis of Standard 011 Co. , Mr. McGuire of McGuire 011 Col, Mr. Peters of the American Oil Co. and Mr. Lane of the Trimount Oil Co. were present. Voted to buy 5,000 gals. from McGuire, 10,000 from American 011 Co. , 10,000 from Standard 011 Co. Voted to buy all of the crushed stone from Malden Crushed Stone Co. A request was received from Mr. Leo Lieberman, Educational Adviser for the Harold Parker State Forest C C C Camp, asking for the use of the tennis courts for 1 hour 6:00 to 7:00 P. M. each Friday. The Board voted to grant the request. An order was received from Dr. Halligan, Chairman of the Board of Health to provide water on Colburn Road. Voted to put in a temporary water supply immediately by running a 1" pipe up to the first three houses, a distance of approx- i -2- August 28, 1934. imately 250 ft. , and there install a faucet with lock and key so that only the residents can use it. Voted to withdraw the permit of the American Telephone & Telegraph Co. to maintain poles on Haven St. and to so notify them as soon as the Superintendent determines the advisability of such a notice. The Superintendent was instructed to make a plan of Washington St. playground for the purpose of rearranging the layout. Board adjourned at 10:30 P. M.
