-' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs. Fairclough, Fowle, Barnes, Crocker and Superintendent
Birnie were present.
Mr. Fairclough was elected Chairman pro tem.
Records of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The residents of Colburn Road made application through the
Superintendent for water service. The estimated cost of installation
providing residents do the digging and back filling will be approximately
$150.00. The matter was referred to the Town Counsel.
Albine LeFave, Mrs. Cora Luce, Mrs. Mary LeFave, Mrs. Ivan
Johnson, Mrs. Ella I. Cummings , Mr. C. Luce, all of Colburn Road
appeared to discuss with the Board the water problem there. The
matter was laid on the table until the Board of Health should order
this Board to act.
The sidewalk reconstruction on Haven St. was taken up and
discussed at length. Voted to defer action until the joint light and
telephone poles are removed.
The Board was advised of a suit brought against the Town
by Mrs. Sophie Chalfen, 34-41 Haven St. for damages caused by street
water running into her cellar. Superintendent will make particular
effort to collect back water bills due from Mrs. Chalfen.
A letter was received from the Town Counsel informing the
Board that changing of grade on County Road should be made by the

Board of Public Works in the usual manner of making street relocations. ,
Matter of installing curbstone at corner of Lowell and
Deering St. was discussed. The Superintendent was requested to make
estimate of cost.
A petition was received from several persons in the neighbor-
hood of Hopkins and Cedar St. asking that the brush along the side of
Hopkins St. be cut down.
Letter was received from the Town Counsel requesting this
Board to report details of accident to John Burserean on Main St.
between Reading Square and Green St. The matter was referred to the
Superintendent.
New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. petitions this Board
for permission to relocate two poles on Washington St, near inter-
section with Main.
Board voted to repair sidewalk at 50 Mt. Vernon St. , property
of Mrs. Jennie L. Mellen.
Voted to charge Mr. Van Stone of West St. $67.24 instead of
$89.69 for installation of additional water service on his premises,
the cost being from the property line instead of from the main.
Voted to grant abatement of water bill to John L. Griffin,
10 Bond St. because of impure water. The reduced bill amounts to $7.28.
It was voted, and a letter was sent to Mr. Bent, Town
Accountant, authorizing him to take from Drainage Account the sum of
$1,000 for the purpose of making payment for certain drainage pipe
purchased for this Board earlier in the year 1934 for an E R A drainage 7

-� Orders for sidewalk assessment were received from the
Town Counsel on the properties therein mentioned. All were approved
and signed.
Voted to approve easement for water installation on
Pilgrim Road.
Voted to improve conditions on the Mineral St. Bridge in
so far as present limited funds will permit.
Voted to drain Mr. Menovitch's yard, 1 High St., by build-
ing a catch basin there.
Water bills were discussed at great length. There ensued
an investigation of office operation. No action was taken pending
' the return of the Chairman, Mr. Putnam.
The layout of Pinevale Ave. was not approved pending
inquiry of Jesse W. Thorn as to his willingness to be cut off of
street frontage.
Board adjourned at 11:23 P. M. to convene with Selectmen.
