HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-07-27 Board of Public Works Minutes ' Reading, Mass. , July 27, 1934. The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Fairclough, Fowle & Crocker, and Super- intendent Birnie were present. Mr. Fowle acted as Secretary pro tem. The records of the previous meeting were read and accepted. Signed Assessments for sidewalk construction at various locations. Signed Assessments for street construction on Ellis Ave. , Cedar St. & Third St. Mr. Ellenwood, & Mr. Sias of Municipal Light Department appeared before the Board in regard to resurfacing of sidewalk on Haven St. which was damaged by that department in laying under- ground wires. It was agreed that they are to advertise for bids and construct a new sidewalk as soon as poles are removed. This will be in two to three weeks. In the meantime they will spread calcium chloride to lay dust. Hearing held at 8:00 P. M. on the proposed changing of the name of Third St. to Shipkin Ave. The following appeared: Harold C. Buck, Norman Haines, of the Planning Board, Mr. & Mrs. Ireland, Mrs. Shipkin. All were in favor of the change and Mr. Haines reported Captain Eames of the Fire Department has no ob- jection. -2- Mr. and Mrs. James H. Stevens sent word through Mr. Fairclough that they objected and suggested the name of Bear Hill Road. Board voted to proceed with the changing of the name to Shipkin Ave. Mr. Lindquist of Pinevale Ave. appeared before the Board relative to the laying out of a continuation of Pinevale Ave. It was suggested that Mr. Lindquist consult further with the inter- ested abuttors. He was given release blanks to be filled in and signed for an extension of water. Mr. Wing of Wakefield appeared before the Board and presented releases for water on Pilgrim Road. Voted to install 6" Main. Applications received for granolithic sidewalks from Laura W. Barnes, 137-139 Bancroft Ave. , same to be constructed under Chapter 83. Voted to construct. Letter received from Planning Board relative to following Manning Plan at Birch Meadow. Placed on file. Voted to install water service to swimming pool belonging to Lester S. Riley, 72 Prospect St. at approximate cost of $101.47 to street line. Voted to install water pipe into Junior High School football field at a cost of $250.00 to School Committee. Matter of collecting and liening water bills discussed. It was voted that blue slip shall be sent after thirty days. A demand is to be sent at the end of thirty-five days. The water is to be shut off at end of forty days. -3- Any bill uncollected in full not later than three months is to be brought to the attention of the Board for lien or extension of time at their discretion. List of unpaid water bills was gone over and action taken on those which are to be liened and those given extension. Meeting adjourned at 12:00 M. Respectfully Submitted:.
