The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P. M
Messrs. Putna, Fowle, Crooker, Barnes and Superintendent
Birnie were present.
The Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Mr. Henry W. Shumaker of 41 John St. made application for a
granolithic sidewalk. The application was granted and a letter sent
to Mr. Shumaker to that effect.
A letter was received from the Board of Cemetery Trustees
requesting a tarvia treatment on the paths and avenues of Laurel Hill
Cemetery. The request was granted and a letter sent to the Board
informing them so.
The Superintendent presented a report of the shut offs
during the week.
An application was received for the installation of water
on Colburn Rd. After discussing the value of an improvement in that
neighborhood it was voted to postpone action indefinitely until such
time as conditions are very definitely changed.
Mr. Bryant came in to make a brief report on the progress
of the E. R. A. projects. The application for the project to develop
Birch Meadow Playground was examined. It was voted that the entire
matter be laid on the table until more information is available.

A letter was received from Mr. Albert Leman asking the
Board to make some slight repairs to the sidewalk at the corner of
Middlesex Ave. and School St. Board voted to make the repair
immediately.
A letter was received from the American Legion thanking
the Board for its cooperation in making their wrestling carnival a
success.
It was voted to install Mr. Sawyerb granolithic side-
walk on his premises at 15 Howard St. at once.
Mr. Fred Stone of Longwood Road appeared to complain
about a cesspool on property across the street which overflows and
' runs across the street onto his property. On this matter he was
advised to see the Board of Health. He also complained about the
poor condition of the road surface. It was voted to write a letter
to the Board of Health calling the matter to their attention. It was
also voted to make the requested road repairs.
It was voted to give the Town Counsel a list of the liens
which this Board intends to place on properties because of unpaid
water bills.
A discussion of the progress of construction on Van Norden
Road took place. It was estimated that the work could be completed for
about $1,000. It was agreed that the work should be finished as soon
as possible.
' A discussion of the progress of construction on County Road
was made. It was decided that by grading the entire road and finishing
it off with a good gravel surface the job could be done for $1200. The

Superintendent was asked to make up an estimate of the cost to finish.
The change in the radius at the corner of Chapin Ave. and
Elliott St. was taken up. It was decided to build it as a ten foot
radius.
The Plans for Chapin Ave. were signed under the Board of
Public Works.
The condition on Gardner Road respecting the water supply
was discussed. It was decided to place the pipe Monday and begin
work a week later using welfare labor, to take up the amount they
owe this Board for delinquent water bills.
Mr. George Lewis appeared to ask some questions about
water installations and road construction. Decided to get at the
proper drainage of the land back of North Main St. near Ridge Road as
soon as possible.
The water hydrant shower will be connected to different
hydrants around the town according to a schedule such as 2 to 31
Pleasant St. near the Fire Station; 3 t 4, Minot St. & Centre Ave.
4 to 5, Hancock St. near the R. R. bridge. The schedule begins to-

morrow and will continue every day when the temperature is above 80 .
Mr. Fowle agreed to superintend the making of another shower.
A letter was received from the Planning Board confirming the
suggestions made by them at our previous meeting regarding the development
of Birch Meadow. The matter is to be taken up jointly with the
Selectmen.
Regarding the installation of a toilet in the Woburn St.
Fire Station, this Board's part will consist of building a cesspool.
Board so voted.

' The Selectmen requested this Board to convene with them
on the matter of continuing Main St. construction to the Railroad
tracks and the finishing in concrete of Post Office Square.
It was decided to make a definite attempt to place a
curbing at 39 Berkeley St. at the premises of Mr. Henry Davies.
A set of regulations for numbering houses was received
from the Town Counsel. The regulations were corrected and approved.
It was voted to place in the parade five trucks providing
drivers are willing to give time.
The Superintendent was authorized to spend $10.00 from the
Board of Public Works fund for bunting or other suitable decorations.
