The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs. Putnam, Fairclough, Fowle, Crocker and Superin-
tendent Birnie were present.
Mr. Bishop of the Chronicle office phoned asking who author-
ized the cutting down of the trees on South Main St. He was informed
that this Board ordered them cut as being necessary for highway
construction. He was asked also to print a notice on the front page
of the Chronicle of June 15 that the Board was meeting June 14 in-
stead of the 15th.
Superintendent made a written report with a detailed sketch
showing how he flushed Mr. G. A. Parker's water service at #1 Charles
St. This method is suggested as a correction of trouble on all dead
ends. Superintendent is to watch this and report.
A letter was received from the Department of Taxation,
State House, Room 242, informing the Board that it did not have
copies for free distribution except to actual taxing officials.
Superintendent to try to get two copies.
Mr. G. T. Sawyer signed a petition for the construction of
a granolithic sidewalk at 15 Howard St. , dated June 4, 1934.
Secretary wrote June 9, 1934, asking whether payment was to be on a
cash or tirke basis. No answer received as yet.

Superintendent reported in writing as to shutting off
of water at property of Fred F. Smith, 14 Smith Ave. . See report
on file.
Board signed sidewalk assessment for additional work to
be done on property of Harold R. Metcalf et al, Pleasant St. ,
amounting to $97. 50.
A claim was received from Daisy L. Worth, 139 Bancroft
St. , Reading for personal injuries received on Friday evening,
June 8, 1934, caused by a defect in the granolithic sidewalk on
Lowell St. between the Public Library and the Municipal Building.
Voted to refer matter to the Law Committee.
Voted to try to obtain a project for the construction of
an extension of the sewer on High Street from Mt. Vernon to Dudley
St.
Sewer costs were discussed.
Board discussed the extension of the construction of
concrete to the Railroad on South Main St.
Voted to ask Mr. Charles Howard to meet with the Board
next Tuesday night at 7:30 P. M. June 19, 1934.
Board adjourned at 10:00 P. M.
