The meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs. Putnam, Fowle, Fairclough, Crocker and Superintendent
Birnie were present.
The final action taken by the Board was to make an inspection
of two trucks, a Diamond T and a General Motor Car.
Mr. Barnes appeared at 8:00 P . M.
The Board drove up g P to Ridge Road to inspect a ditch which
had been clogged by debris causing the land in the vicinity to be
flooded. After a short inspection it was unanimously agreed that the
ditch should be thoroughly cleaned out. The Board then moved on to
Van Norden Road, from there to Mr. Young's house on Haverhill St. ,
then to Chapin Ave. and from there to Third St. Third St. was very
well graded.
Mr. Harold Metcalf of John and Pleasant Streets appeared to
make an extension in his application for sidewalk construction. The
Board voted to continue his sidewalk around the corner as per his
corrected application.
The Board voted to buy a Diamond T Truck at a total cost of
$2,272.00.
Mr. Sias came before the Board to bring to its attention the
damage done to the lights in Memorial Park over the horse shoe courts.
He estimated the amount as $45.00. It was brought out that no such
damage had been done to the lights at any other playground. Publicity
will be given to the matter.
Mr. Putnam read to the Board his letter to Mr. John L.
Devaney, 14 Washington St.

A letter was received from the Department of Public Works
of the State of Massachusetts informing the Board of the bidders on
Main St. construction and the amounts bid.
A letter was received from the Town Counsel Mr. Davis
reporting on the examination of titles for sidewalk construction
assessments.
The E. R. A. officials rule that at the end of next month
there will be no more money allowed for highway construction. The
Superintendent expects to get an E. R. A. project on the cleaning of
the drain under Ridge Road in the very near future.
The Superintendent was instructed to clean out the swimming
' pool at Birch Meadow.
In view of the increased number of mosquitoes and other
water insects it was agreed that special attention should be given to
drainage this year.
Mr. Charles Capone wants to hire the town's roller for $17.00
a day; the town paying for the fuel and the operator. It was voted
that it would be satisfactory if Mr. Capone would pay for the fuel and
use our operator at his regular wage, plus $17.00 per day for roller.
A letter was received from Forrest Bryant asking for the
estimated number of Park supervisors this year.
An application was received from Mr. G. T. Sawyer for side-
walk construction in front of his house at 15 Howard St. The Secretary
' was instructed to acknowledge receipt of the application and ask for
information as to method desired of making payment.

A letter was received from Mr. A. H. Laumann of Hopkins St.
complaining of the condition which his driveway was left last winter
when the road was being widened. The Superintendent informed the Board
that Mr. Laumann is now satisfied.
Mr. Bryant appeared relative to his letter asking for infor-
mation concerning Park supervisors.
The Board discussed proposed activities in Memorial Park.
Mr. Bryant was asked to obtain a project whereby five supervisors
would be hired for the parks and playgrounds.
The Board voted approval of the tennis court improvement
project, whereby at a cost of $229.83 the three courts which have
been started can be finished.
Mr. Bryant was also asked to cooperate in obtaining drain-
age projects.
The construction of a large swimming pool at Birch Meadow
was discussed.
Mr. Bryant reported progress on the project to gather infor-
mation on Advertising signs hung on public property.
The financial condition of all departments was reviewed.
It was agreed to construct the curve at Chapin Ave. corner
of Elliott St. at 10' on the N. W. Corner.
The Superintendent was admonished to take particular care
to see that all the small holes on the town's roads be promptly filled
and patched.

' The list of roads to be tarred and oiled was looked over
and some specifications made. It was decided to make a trip next
Friday to inspect the roads most in need of re-surfacing.
It was voted to hold meetings regularly until June 29, and
then alternate meetings every other week.
The Board adjourned at 11:30 P. M.
