The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs . Putnam, Fairclough, Fowls, Barnes and Crocker
were present. Superintendent Birnie was also present.
Mr. Putnam, Mr. Barnes, and Mr. Birnie were unanimously
elected as Chairman, Secretary and Superintendent respectively.
A letter was received from Mr. Roscoe Walsworth recommending
Mr. Herbert T. White of Reading to the employ of the Department of
Public Works .
Voted to write a letter addressed to the employees of
the Department expressing the Board 's appreciation of the excellent
manner in which they responded to the emergencies of the past year.
A petition was received from Arthur E. Knapp, at al ,
regarding drainage in the neighborhood of PSnevale Ave. , Percy Ave. ,
and Main St. Mr. Ames , Mr. Knapp, and Mr. Mitchell of the petition-
ers and Mr. Henry R. Johnson appeared before the Board relative to
the same matter.
A letter was received from Mr. and Mrs. James Roberts of
51 Prospect St. , Reading, regarding a water bill. Board voted to
extend time on the payment of the bill.
Mr. Gillard of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co.
appeared before the Board regarding the installation of telephone
wires on Grove St. through the property of the Meadow Brook Golf Club.

He stated that the Telephone Company could make no unusual ex-
penditure there in order to convenience the Golf Club.
A letter was received from the Municipal Light Department
regarding the installation of poles on Grove St. through the
property of the Golf Club. The Light Department feels that is
can make no unusual expenditure there to convenience the Golf Club.
It was voted to send letters to the Golf Club, the Telephone
Company and the Municipal Light Department to meet here at this
office next week to consider the matter of installing telephone and
light connections on Grove Street through the property of the Meadow
Brook Golf Club.
The appropriations as recommended by the Finance Committee
were discussed at length.
Mr. Fairclough agreed to see Mr. Dewsnap of Franklin Street in
an attempt to persuade him to accept the layout of Franklin Street.
The articles appearing in the Town .warrant relating to the
Board of Public Works were considered at length.
It was voted to enter in the Town Warrant an appeal for $10,000
to assist in providing work for Welfare labor this coming year.
Future road construction was discussed at length.
It was voted to buy 900 Ft. of 18" pipe to install on West St.
Board adjourned at 9:30 P. M.
