HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-02-16 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , Feb. 16, 193 +. The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Hartshorn, Fowle, Fairclough and Barnes and Superintendent Birnie were present. The records of the previous meeting were read and approved. A letter was received from Charles F. Gormlie asking for reconsideration of his petition for abatement of legal fee on side- walk betterment assessment. The Secretaryacknowledged receipt of letter and said that the Board would take the matter under advisement. The Town Accountant reported by letter that the unexpended balance of Water reserve is $95.97, and the Sewer reserve will be approximately $1,400.00. The exact amount will be determined within a few days. The New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. reported receipt of letter of last week and thanked Board for the information. A hearing on the Laying Out of Franklin St. was held at 8:00 P. M. Mr. C. W. Nelson, Mr. Whitchurch, Mr. Dewsnap, Mrs. Hills, Mr. & Mrs. William Stone, Mr. Cuneo, Mrs. Emerson, Mr. Harold Batchelder, and Mr. Elmer Batchelder were present. Mrs. Emerson, Wall & drives; Mr. Harold Batchelder, care of water; Mr. Stone, wall and steps ; Mr. Dewsnap, wall; Mr. Cuneo, driveway; Mr. Nelson, Wall; Mr. Philbrook, two trees left near house; request the above things attended to. -2- Feb. 16, 1934. Mr. Frank Tanner asked for information for School Committee , relative to our park appropriations. A letter was received from the Board of Assessors signed by C. F. Atkinson, Clerk, notifying Board relative to abatement of Assessments as reported by Mr. Creelman, Supervisor of Taxation that apportionments cannot be set ahead. See letter on file. Mr. George T. Lewis appeared and reported that a stump was dumped on the side of Willow St. Board voted to hold a hearing on the Laying Out of Cedar and Third Sts. next Friday at 8:00 P. M. Representative Mrs. Sweetser appeared relative to the Laying Out of County Road. Voted to hold a hearing on Van Norden Road at8:30 P. M. and on County Road at 9:30 P. M. also to advertise a hearing on both under- the Board of Survey. Superintendent reports 132 water meters frozen this winter. Board considered new projects for the Finance Committee.
