HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-02-02 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , Feb. 2, 1934. . The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7.30 P. M. Messrs . Putnam, Hartshorn, Fairclough, Barnes and Super- intendent Birnie were present. The Records of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Iverson of Grove Street appeared relative to his gravel pit, poles lights, etc. on Grove St. A letter from the State Dept. of Public Works informed the Board that the Haverhill St. Contract No. 4108, dated September 12, 1933 was approved. A letter from S. P. Painting, 8 Fairview Ave. asked that a curb be installed at the catch basin in front of his house. Superintendent informs Board that he has curb and will set same. So voted. Voted and signed plan showing abandonment of underground conduit in Westerly side of Haverhill St. at end of Franklin St. as requested by New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. Representative Mrs. Sweetser appeared and spoke about the hearing at the State House on Wednesday, January 31, 1934 on the petition of the residents of Libby Ave., for abatement of their Better- ment Assessments. She said that the Chairman of the Committee ad- vised petitioners to seek relief through the Town Meeting. The Superintendent made a report on the method of collection of the cost of water service installation. A petition for the removal of nine guy stubs in Haverhill St. was granted and signed by the Chairman. -2- A notice that the State had set down a total appropri- ation of $15,000 for the improvement of West St. was received from the County Commissioners , but as no provision was made for this in the Board's Budget this year the matter was laid on the table. A letter, dated January 10, 1934, from Charles J. Gorman 146 Bromfield St. , Wollaston, asking for an abatement of his water bill for property at 59 Green St. Superintendent says that owner's plumber reports leaks in toilets and as excess shows in water meter the leaks must be on house side of meter and that no abatement can be made. Secretary wrote so advising him. Board considered revised Budget for Park Department. , Board listened to its report, approved and signed it. Board adjourned at 9:20 P. M.
