HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-12-08 Board of Public Works Minutes �1 Reading, Mass. , December 8, 1933. , The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called to order at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Hartshorn, Fairclough, Barnes and Superin- tendent Birnie were present. The Records of the previous meeting were read and approved. A hearing was held at 7:30 in Room 19 on the Laying out of Grove St. from Forest St. to Franklin St. No one appeared. Board voted to Layout. A letter was received from Fred F. Smith notifying Board that he would not be responsible for the water bill for his property occupied by Frederick Donahue, Sunnyside Ave. , amounting to $14.90, ajid also property occupied by George A. C. Knight, Virginia Rd. Cor. , Pennsylvania Ave. amounting to $33.65. Voted to shut off water at both places. The Superintendent submitted an estimate on construction of Ellis Ave. Ext, costing .265¢ per ft. frontage. A hearing was held at 8:00 P. M. for the taking at the Cor. of Lowell and High Sts . to round corner. Mr. Howard J. Murphy appeared and had no objections, but asked that a field stone wall be built around corner matching the High St. Wall. Board voted to relocate. Board considered appropriations for 1934 and proposed the following amounts: -2- ESTIMATED APPROPRIATIONS 1934 Board of Public Works $5, 500.00 Maintenance of Storm Drains 2,000.00 Sidewalk Account: 5,000.00 Drainage Construction - Bal. $131.47 4,000.00 Care of Dumps 832.00 Park Department 3, 500.00 Highway Department 30,000.00 Snow .& Ice Account 3, 500.00 Water Dept. Maint. , etc. 60,000.00 Sewer Dept. Maint. & Construction 10, 500.00 Sewer Dept. House Conn. 1,000.00 Main Street - Chapter 90 7,000.00 West St. Lowell St. Maintenance " " 1,000.00 -3- December 8, 1933. Mr. McKenna and others of Longwood Road appeared for Board's answer as to drainage. Board voted to build drain if easement can be obtained. Mr. Cleveland agreed to give easement thru his property if that would be the best location. Superintendent to meet him on ground next week. Mr. Cahoon of Oak St. asked that drain be cleaned near his property so as not to flood his cellar. Superintendent is to investigate and report. Voted to hire a truck for Forest St. . 50¢ per hour and have the driver certified to be paid out of labor. Meeting adjourned at 9:38 P.
