HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-11-17 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , November 17, 1933. ' - The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called to order at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnany Hartshorn, Fowle, Fairclough, Barnes and Superintendent Birnie were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Water bill of Reading Soft Water Laundry Inc. considered. A letter from the Reading Hockey Club relative to a4rink was received. Voted to have Superintendent report on cost of a rink using second hand lumber. Mr. James Keating, 133 Haven St. appeared relative to his water bill and asking for a return on the amounts paid in the past, based on the last bill. The Superintendent is to have the meter reader give a detailed report on his readings. Mr. Keating claims that meter was never readi but just guessed at. Bids on Cast Iron Water Pipe were opened at 8:00 P. ' and the Warren Pipe Co. of Mass. Inc. quoted $1.65 it it " . Voted to have the Superintendent write for confirmation of price of .70¢. If approved to purchase, but if price is $1.70 then purchase from the Warren Pipe Co. @ $1.65 per lin. foot. Mr. Niles Pierpont and Mr. Charles McKenney appeared relative to a hockey rink. They were told that the Superintendent is to report on costs next Friday evening. - Mr. J. R. Arsenault, 12 Beech.St. appeared relative to his water bill. He was told that the water would not be shut off and some way may be found to #yelp him pay off his bill. The Board thought that he might work one day extra for the Water Department. ' Superintendent submitted a list of supplies for the Water Department amounting to about $1500.00. He is to write for prices, bids not necessary. A letter was received from the Town Counsel relative to a claim of damage by Mrs. William Menovitch on account of a drain being laid through her property at #1 High St. Reading. He wants all facts relating thereto. Voted to pay Irving Nesmith $175.00 on account for gravel purchased -from him for Haverhill St. construction. The Chairman reported that the Law Committee was of the opinion that the Town Counsel should do all necessary Town business for the salary received and that all expenses should be paid out ' of a special expense account. -3- November 17, 1933. The Secretary wrote to the Register of Deeds at East Cambridge asking that a charge account be opened in the name of the Board. Board signed "Plan showing location of Building Addition of Ace Art Co. over drainage Easement" dated October 1933, Davis & Abbott C. E. 's Scale of 10 Ft. to an inchg also signed the release. Superintendent submitted a plan for cleaning old standpipe and flushing water system by opening certain hydrants during the night 11 P. M. to 1 A. M. Voted to have it done.
