The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was
called to order at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs. Putnam, Hartshorn, Fairclough, Fow le, Barnes and
Superintendent Birnie were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
A letter of appreciation for Board's cooperation in the
Highway Beautification contest was received from the Reading Woman's
Club signed by Mrs. G. Stuart Woodman, Corresponding Secretary.
Board signed five copies of an Order of extra work on
Highway contract in Reading, viz, Haverhill St. from the State Dept.
of Public Works to furnish and apply 20,000 gals. special #14 cold
' tar @ $ .1065 per gal. complete in place.
Mr. Fitzroy Willard, Pratt St. (near Wakefield line)
appeared asking that gravel be dumped in street to improve drainage
conditions. Voted to put in gravel.
Mr. Elmer Lincoln of Echo Ave. appeared relative to his
water bill of $72.65 which he claims as excessive, his average bill
being about $8.70 for six months. Voted to make bill $9.50.
Mr. S. S. Spellman requests use of Washington St. field
Saturdays in November when not used by Reading High School, also for
November 309 both morning and afternoon. So voted.
Board voted change from three party to J. 0. Poles on
Middlesex Ave. from High to Lowell Sts. as requested by New England
Telephone Co. and Municipal Light Department. Signed by Chairman.

A letter was received from Leonard J. Nodding, #42 Berkeley ,
St. requesting that a water meter be installed on his sill cock water
pipe; also calling attention to his application for. curbing in front
of his property. Secretary acknowledged letter and asked that an
appointment be made with Superintendent.
Voted to buy fencing material except posts from New England
Fencing Company Inc. as per schedule dated Oct. 19, 1933.
Board signed the taking of an easement for drainage situated
on theEasterlyside of Haverhill St.
Voted to raise grade of horse shoe courts in Memorial Park
taking about one half day, costing about $20.00.
Voted to give Mr. Angelo Zanni an estimate of cost of laying ,
water pipe down to lot y49 on Criterion St. , off Grove St.
The Town Counsel, Mr. Davis , reported the County Commissioners
thru Mr. Kendall report that West St. or its continuation Washington
St. in Woburn is a State Highway and that application should be made
to the State Department.
Voted to apply $90.00 to go with $$0.00 of School money to
erect a fence at Washington St. playground.
Board is requested to put a sidewalk on the south side of
Echo Ave. from Pratt St. as far as Street is accepted. Voted to build
sidewalk.
Victor T. Buck of the Department of Correction notified
Board that all supplies manufactured by said Department should be ,
purchased therefrom.

Voted to lay 18" pipe for drainage in Birch Meadmi.
