HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-10-13 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , October 13, 1933. ' The regular meeting of .the Board of Public Works was called to order at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Hartshorn, Fowles Fairclough, Barnes and Superintendent Birnie were present. The records of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Charles Erickson of Ash St. appeared requesting the use of one of our gasoline pumps. He was told that it would be contrary to the Board's rule never to rent or loan equipment. Mr. Leman, Chairman of the Law Committee reports, by note, that the matter of thedutiesof the Town Counselwillbe taken up soon by said Committee. A letter was received from Poole & Hobson Co. offering an inspection service on the oil burning equipment at the new Pumping Station for $18.00 from October 15, 1933 to April 15, 1934• No action taken. A letter was received from the County Commissioners notifying Board that the petition for the relocation of Haverhill St. had been received and that Friday, October 29, 1933 at 10 A. M. at said office had been set for the hearing. Signed by F. W. Kendall, Engr. & Sec'y. The Town Counsel approved plan for change in drainage at Ace Art Co. between Gould & Green Sts. Area affected to be determined and placed on plan and in stipulation. The drainage conditions at West and South Sts. was discussed with the Town Counsel, Mr. Fowls being present. Board voted to have Town Counsel interview the County -2- ' October 13, 1933. ' Commissioners asking their opinion as to responsibility and solution. Mr. Russell, Mr. Randall and Mr. Doherty appeared. Mr. Randall objects to any more water being dumped into the ditch. , Mr. Doherty is going to pipe his land and objects to any more water being dumped into the ditch. Board voted to fill trench leaving pipe in until a decision is reached. Superintendent reported interview with Mr. Zanni - no conclusion reached. Superintendent reported that State Engineer ordered him out of the Abbott gravel pit and he has moved over to the Nesmith Pit. Superintendent reported that lime for marking the foot , ball field has been requested at the Washington St. grounds. Voted to mark field. Voted to have Superintendent use Prestone in water systems of Town Cars. The question of having an open meeting for a public hearing was discussed.
