HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-09-29 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , September 29, 1933. - The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M, Messrs. Putnam, Hartshorn, Fowle, Fairclough, Barnes and Superintendent Birnie were present. The records of the previous meeting were read and approved. A letter was .received from Frank J. Lehan Esq. , attorney for Mrs. Sophie Chalfen, owner of premises #31-41 Haven, Cor. Gould St. , Reading, asking for an abatement of her water bill. Voted to have Secretary write Mr. Lehan that Board sees no reason for an abatement. - The Town Counsel reports by letter that he has been un- able to get payment for water from P. J. Holland. A letter was received from the County Commissioners calling Board's attention to the hearing Thursday, October 5, 1933 giving an opportunity to present petitions for State aid under Chapter 90 for the year 1934. Mr. Earl Chapin and Mr. Reichardt appeared relative to drainage of Mr. Riley's and Mr. Reichardt's cellar. Mr. Burt S. Hall, 15 Prescott St. appeared with a petition asking for Tennis Courts in the Washington St. Playground. He was informed that the Board was very favorable to the petition, but that no money is available at present. But Board would have the matter in mind. - -2- Reading, Sept. 29, 1933. Bids for Concrete pipe were opened at 8:15 P. M. , Voted to award contract to Wendell Bancroft & Co. The two bids received were exactly the same. (See bids) The second bidder was the New England Concrete Pipe Co. He is on a dead end of 1 1/4" pipe. Voted to lay 160 Ft. of 1 1/4" pipe to make a connection so as to circulate water. Voted to pay truck drivers $1.25 per hour for use of their truck only while they are used with gas shovel, otherwise they shall be paid $1.00 per hour. - A request for use of the Bleachers at Birch Meadow was received and placed on file for later consideration.
