HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-09-15 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , September 15, 1933• ' The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Hartshorn, Fowle, Fairclough, Barnes and Superintendent Birnie were present. The records of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Norman Bogle, 41 Washington St, appeared asking that a fence be built at Washington St, playground so as to protect his mother's property. Superintendent to investigate cost of fence and report next Friday. Mrs. William Menovitch appeared asking how long her house has been connected with the sewer and how muchshe has paid there- for. She was referred to the Assessor's Office. Florence G. Nichols , Girls ' Coach at the High School wrote asking that they might have the use of the two tennis courts at Memorial Park on either Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:45 to 4:30; also the use of the Washing- ton Playground for Field Hockey two days a week this fall. Voted to grant request. Secretary so wrote in answer. A complaint was received from Mr. David Schurman, #386 Haverhill St. , Reading, regarding the new line of Haverhill St. which comes within one foot of his house he claims. He asks that the street line be changed. Voted to ask the County Commissioners to investigate. Secretary wrote to the Commissioners enclosing a copy of a letter from Mr. Dean, State Department of Public Works. Bids were opened for approximately 80 tons of 2 1/2" or -2- September 15, 1933. , #1 Stone and 80 tons of 1/2" or Pea Stone. The Lynn Sand and Stone Co. bid $1.09 per ton net, and The General Crushed Stone Co. of Winchester bid $0.94 per ton delivered to a Birch Spreader on Haverhill St. Voted to purchase from the General Crushed Stone Co. at $0.94 per ton. Voted not to abate the legal fee assessed Charles F. Gormlie, 36 Pearl St. , Reading. Superintendent reported that the new wells cost $120.30 per well including suction main. Including welfare help, totals $141.39 per well. Voted to allow Superintendent two days and expenses to Bridgeport, Conn. Adjourned at 10:23 P. M.
