The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs. Putnam, Hartshorn, Fowls, Fairclough and Barnes
and Superintendent Birnie were present.
The Records of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The Chairman read a letter from the Town Counsel with
regard to Mr. Gormlie's request for information regarding legal fee
on granolithic sidewalks. Mr. Gormlie appeared and was shown letter.
Mr. Davis , Town Counsel, argued the law with Mr. Gormlie who signed
Notice of Apportionment Assessment under protest.
Thomas W. Beaman's assessment was also filed.
Bids for C. I. Pipe and fittings opened at 8:00 P . M.

Board discussed Grove St. layout and cost of examining
titles of $405.00.
Mr. Frank W. Lee, 56 Woburn St. , appeared protesting water
bill of $44.80. Superintendent reported leaks in three flush tanks
to which Mr. Lee agrees, but asks an abatement because he was not
notified immediately. Voted not to abate his bill. He was so
notified by letter signed by the Secretary.
The R. P . Safety Committee has called to the Board's
attention thru the Board of Selectmen a condition which in its
opinion demands that a Sidewalk be built on the Mineral St. Bridge.

' The Town Counsel reports that street shown on the
photostat presented by Mrs . Mollie Sweetser in his opinion was
really West St. and not County Road to which the Board agrees.
Voted to have Mr. Birnie see Mrs. Sweetser and to submit Mr. Davis'
opinion, dated July 28, 1933.
Voted to postpone action on Grove St. layout.
Superintendent to look up correspondence on the Mineral
St. Bridge construction for cost of a sidewalk thereon.
Mr. Elmer Batchelder left a letter complaining about
drainage conditions at the corner of No. Main St. and Franklin St.
Voted to refer matter back to Mr. Batchelder, there being no
' liability on this Board's part, but suggested that he ask the
State Department of Public Works.
The Town Counsel reports by letter that the Town has no
responsibility at the Wading Pool and that no attendant is required
by law. See letter dated August 4, 1933.

An application for a Granolithic Sidewalk was received
from Harold R. Metcalf, at al, 42 John St. To be placed on file
and constructedwhen money is available.
Voted to connect the house of Merritt A. Powers at al,
with sewer as per Superintendent's estimate. "B" 172 Ft. @ $1.25
per foot costing $215.00.
Superintendent reported on cost of 6" Water pipe in

Chapin Ave. totaling $123.12. _
State Board of Health reports polution in surface water
flowing thru Birch Meadow and recommends chlorine treatment for
disinfection. See details in letter dated July 26, 1933.
A request for a permit to suspend a sign over store
208 Main St. Voted to refer matter to Building Inspector.
Voted to purchase cast iron pipe fittings from Fred A.
Houdlette, 40 Central St. ,. Boston, at a cost of $232. 50.
Voted to purchase pipe from Warren Pipe Co. , 75 Federal St. ,
Boston, at a cost of $1512.50.
Voted to purchase W. I. Pipe and C. I. Fittings from
Brown, Wales Co. , 397 C. St. , So Boston, at a cost of $1107. 59.
Voted to purchase Special Lead Goose Necks, Bronze Mounted

Gate Valves and Valve Boxes from Braman Dow & Co. , 239 Causeway St.
Boston, at a cost of "0433.75.
Estimate received for Haverhill Street cost of construction.
Board considered estimate at length.
