HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-06-23 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , June 23, 1933 The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held at 7:30 P. M. Messrs . Putnam, Fairclough, Fowls, Barnes and Super- intendent Birnie were present. The Records of the previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Abbott of Davis & Abbott appeared with the pro- posed layout of Grove Street from Lowell Street to the bend North of Forest Street. The Board approved the layout and Mr. Abbott promised to have the plan ready July 7, at which time a hearing will be held. Notices are to be sent by mail to the adjoining owners. The Board voted not to hold any meeting on June 30, but that the next meeting will be held on July 71 at which time the hearing will be held for the extension of the sewer on Elliott St. The Board decided to continue the permanent patching li program along West Street and to scarify and resurface the section between Mr. Van Stone's house and Mr. Hawes' house. The Board voted to include in the sidewalk assessments voted last week, the petition of Thaddeus P. Shaw and Priscilla C. Shaw for a granolithic sidewalk to be constructed under the Betterment Act, on their property being Lot #8 on Pearl St. Mr. John B. Schaffer appeared before the Board to sus- pend a temporary sign over Haven St. on the East side of Main St. from June 30 to July 5. -2- June 23, 1933. The Board granted a permit for the sign over Haven St. Mr. Charles Tasney, Commander of the American Legion appeared requesting a permit to erect a temporary band stand on the Common for a period of four weeks in July, for the purpose of giving four band concerts , one each week. The Board voted to grant same. Voted to allow the Malden & Melrose Gas Light Co. to extend the 6" Gas Main on School St. under the present location to Mt. Vernon St. in a Southerly direction and in a Northerly direction to Middlesex Ave. The Secretary wrote to Philip H. Tirrell, Chairman of the Board of Cemetery Trustees, acknowledging letter of ' June 16, 1933, and informing him that our Board would com- mence work on the Cemetery Avenues, Tuesday, June 27, 1933. Voted to have Superintendent notify Mr. Dana F. Perkins that Board will give him a grade if he wants to build a granolithic sidewalk, but we will not participate in the cost. Voted to purchase some equipment for the playgrounds. Superintendent to make up a list of the necessary articles. Board considered water bills.
