HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-06-09 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , June 9, 1933. The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called to order at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Putnam, Fairclough, Fowls, Barnes and Super- intendent Birnie were present. Mr. Albin Stark, cor. Baton and Elm Street asked for a corner curb or stones to keep cars from driving over sidewalk and his land. Board voted to put cobblestones in and fix up corner. Records of previous meeting read and approved. The Chairman asked the Superintendent to give an esti- mate of the cost of extending the sewer on Elliott Street, so that the property of Mr. Parker and Mr. Bain might be connected. Board received letter from Board of Selectmen, request- ing that a joint meeting consisting of the Board of Public Works, the Municipal Light Board and the Board of Selectmen be held on Thursday evening, June 15th at 7:30 P. M. to consider the advisa- bility of the Town purchasing the so-called Barry's Garage prop- erty on South Main St. for a municipal garage for various town departments. The Board voted to meet as above requested, and also to hold its regular weekly meeting on this night, thereby elimin- ating its regular Friday night meeting. Mr. Clark Robinson, Chairman of the Planning Board, appeared and read a proposed Town by-law for the renumbering of streets. -2- June 9, 1933. At the request of Mr. Robinson the Board voted that ' the Planning Board be notified of all Board of Survey hearings. (See copy of letter to the Secretary of the Planning Board notifying: him of our action. ) The Board received a letter from Mr. Quimby, Chm. of Publicity Committee of the Reading Rotary Club, asking permission to erect a short banner across the Square. The Board so voted. (See copy of letter in file. ) Mr. L. J. Dean, 325 Pearl St. wrote to the Board asking for a hydrant on Pearl St. between North Main and Franklin Sts. Voted to write in answer that no money is available at present, but it is hoped that later in the season it will be possible to ' install said hydrant and the necessary 6" pipe. Voted to have our Mr. Barnes obtain an approval of all inspections made by the Building Inspector at our request. The Superintendent is to notify Mrs. John Doucette, 31 Warren Ave. , that the Board will not permit her to cut any trees on the ball field. The Welfare Board comprising Mrs. Leman, Chairman, and Mr. Sidebottom, met with us relative to the labor situation on the construction of Haverhill St. The Board of Selectmen also met with us and discussed various problems. Voted to purchase about 300 lbs. of automobile grease from S. R. Stembridge @ .05¢ per lb. ' The Board went on a tour of inspection to the old Pumping Station, Locust St. , Birch Meadow and the Junior High School from 7:30 to 9 P.M., at which time it returned to the office. -3- June 9, 1933. A letter was received from the Board of Selectmen informing us that the position of the boulder at the Willow St. Railroad Crossing was entirely satisfactory to it.
