The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was
called to order at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs. Putnam, Fairclough, Fowls, Barnes and Superinten-
dent Birnie were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Superintendent filed estimate of the cost of Service Pipe
for Benjamin Howe, Howard Street. The Board voted to submit estimate
to Mr. Howe:. for his acceptance. The estimated cost y$42. 50.
Mr. Charles W. H. Smith of Wakefield St. appeared before
the Board requesting that a hydrant be put in near his house.
The Board will take the matter under advisement.
The Board considered and approved a form letter to be
' sent out to applicants for granolithic sidewalks, asking them to
state whether they still wish the work done and whether it be done
under the Betterment Act. or as a cash proposition.
A letter was received from the Middlesex County Com-
missioners, asking that entries be made on the lands taken. (See
letter in files. ) Board voted to lay this matter on table.
Bids were opened at 8:00 P. M. for Motor Oils and Gasoline
as follows :

Voted to award the Gasoline contract to the Gulf
Refining Co. at the price quoted of 11 .040 per gal. below our posted
tank wagon price of gasoline, prevailing at Reading, Mass. on
date of delivery". It being understood that the minimum price made
on this proposal is .06¢ per gal. exclusive of all taxes. The Terms
on the above are 1% for payment in 10 days.
It was voted to lay the question of Motor Oils on the
table.
A letter was received from Mr. Davis, Town Counsel,
relative to the relocation of South Street, enclosing a petition
which may be signed by the Board of Public Works of the Town of
Reading and the proper authorities of the City of Woburn. A
letter was written to the Mayor of Woburn requesting his considera-
tion of the matter and the Superintendent is to consult with the
Superintendent of Streets of Woburn relative thereto.
Another letter was received from the Town Counsel enclosing
a draft of Rules and Regulations with reference to the construction
and maintenance of signs extending into the Public Ways.
The Board signed a taking for a drainage easement 10 ft.
wide through the property of Annie C. Lewis, Chestnut Road, as
shown on a plan to be recorded therewith.
Mr. Henry R. Johnson appeared for the Mechanics Savings
Bank relative to a drain running to Summer Ave. on its West side
between Ellis Ave. and Oak St. At his request the Board voted to
construct a catch basin into which a pipe will empty. Mr. Johnson '
agreed to pay for all materials and Board to do work with Welfare
help.

A letter received from William T. Curley, Wakefield,
relative to water bill at 9 Percy Ave. He requested a rebate or
discount in bill. The Chairman answered this letter.
The Chairman signed a permit for a pole location on
Pinevale Ave. , 490 Ft. west of Main St. received from the Municipal
Light Department, also one for four poles on Intervale Terrace.
Board is to meet tomorrow, Saturday, at 2:00 P. M. for
Inspection of gravel pit at Golf Club and drainage conditions on
West St. at Mr. L. B. Lewis ' property. Also Mr. Frank Strout's
house at Old Pumping Station.
The Chairman reported that the State Department of Public
Works would repair wall on North Main St.
Board voted to purchase tools from Francis Bros. buying
2 Star shovels, black finish, for $p+1.00.
