The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was '
called to order at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs . Putnam, Fairclough, Fowle, Barnes and Superinten-
dent Birnie were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Superintendent requested to make out the form with
copies for each member of the Board of the work proposed for
the coming week.
Superintendent reports that Mr. Valido, Haverhill St. ,
has signed the 4% Guarantee, and the work is already to proceed.
Mr. Birnie gave a report of conditions of progress on
removing boulder at Willow St. Railroad Crossing.
It was unanimously voted to award the contract of re-
moving the boulder at the Willow St. Railroad Crossing to Mr.
Frank Noble at the cost of $175.00, conditionally, for making
satisfactory arrangements with the Railroad.
Mr. Davis, Town Counsel, was given plan of the new loca-
tion of the Drain from Chestnut Rd. to Weston Rd. to draw up the
new release through land of James Lewis.
Mr. Davis reported also that he spoke to the County
Commissioners with regard to the drainage problem in West St. at
the corner of South Street. The Commissioners have offered their
assistance.
Mr. Emerson of the Sanborn Hill Filling Station on Main
St. appeared and demonstrated his Armstrong truck tires to the
Board.

Board voted to purchase One 2 drawer Oak filing cabinet
for 3" x 5" cards.
It was voted unanimously to purchase 2000 ft. of 6 inch
Cast Iron B. & S. Spun Pipe in 16 ft. lengths from The United
States Pipe and Foundry Company CD . 50,10 per ft.
A card is to be made out with regard to the removal of
the knoll opposite the boulder at the Willow St. Crossing. The
Board is to refer the matter to the Board of Selectmen for action.
A claim for damage to car of Harold Russell, Grove St.
done by Street plow for $5.00 was turned over to the Town Counsel.
A claim for damage was received from the Crescent 011
' Company for $50.00 done to their truck by their backing their truck
into a properly guarded ditch. See Superintendent 's report and
letter and bill from Company which has been filed by Town Counsel.
The Board considered the water bill of Charles Gorus with
the Town Counsel, who advised us to send April Bill and after it has
run thirty days to abate it.
The Board voted unanimously to purchase tools as specified
from Francis Bros . for ;5553.00, provided that in checking bids the
Superintendent does not find any other bid lower. Also to purchase
2 tons Prime Western Lead from Frank S. Eaton @ $154.00 with * of 1%
discount, and 2000 ft. of 3/4" Genuine Buyers Galv. Pipe, 1,000 ft. of
1" Galv. Pipe and 1,000 ft. of 1 1/4" galv. pipe from Fred F. Smith
' at $656.4G, less 2;% disc. , and to purchase Armstrong or Firestone
Tires from the Sanborn Hill Service Station at the prices and discounts
quoted with guarantee also.

The report of the Superintendent on the drainage at the
corner of West and Woburn Streets was accepted to be filed in a
complaint file indexed under persons names and with a card indexed
under Street names.
The Town Treasurer advised that letters be sent out asking
that good checks or cash be provided to replace checks received
drawn on the First National Bank of Reading and the Board voted to
have above action taken.
A letter was received from the Town Counsel relative to the
drainage situation at West & South Streets, quoting the authority of
the County Commissioners and it was voted to have the Town Counsel
consult further with the County Commissioner. ,
It was voted to forward the agreement to the Golf Club for
its signature with regard to the sand and gravel easement.
A report was received from the Town Counsel relative to
changing the Town line between Woburn and Reading at South St.
It was voted to lay matter on table until next meeting.
Voted to purchase a stamp to date the receipt of letters,
applications, etc.
A letter was received from the Planning Board relative to the
renaming of a Street in Reading, and asking that a date be set for a
point meeting which was decided to be April 21, 1933 at 9 P. M. and
the Secretary was requested to notify the Planning Board of the above
date. '
Hoard voted to postpone asking for bids on crushed stone.
A letter was received from Abbey J. Huse, 1118 Findlay Ave.

1 New York City, N.Y. objecting to the Laying out of County
Road. Secretary to acknowledge letter.
A letter was received from Robert Carter, Supt. of
Streets, Wilmington, Mass. asking authority to erect a town
line sign on the Reading-Wilmington line and also asking our
agreement to pay one half of the cost. This was voted, it being
required that the sign be of a type approved by the State Dept.
of Public works.
George D. Ray and Ernest W. Chapman requested, by
letter, that a drain be put in West Street in front of their

property. They are to be advised that this matter is before
the Board and that when the money is available the work will
be done.
Voted to hire Mr. Gibbons of Melrose to do the
necessary work to be done by steam shovel on Chestnut Road
for $150.00.
Superintendent to see Mr. Arthur Damon, Pierce St. ,
relative to fixing sidewalk.
The Chairman reported progress made on defective
wall on No. Main St. He suggests that some work be started
this week.
The Superintendent reported that $52.00 would put
the Sewer Department Truck in passable condition. It was voted
to have work done.
Voted to appropriate $12.00 approximately, to paint
cement foundation at New Pumping Station.

Voted to have Mineral Street Bridge painted on Street
side.
Superintendent to have copies of Tax Payers Association
report made for each member.
