HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-03-10 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass . , March 10, 1933. The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called to order at 7:30 P. M. I Messrs . Putnam, Fairclough, Fowls and Barnes present; Superintendent also present. Mr. Putnam elected Chairman for this meeting. Records of previous meeting read and accepted. Mr. Putnam was unanimously elected Permanent Chairman and Mr. Fairclough, Secretary. Mr. Fowls agreed to check the weekly bills . The Secretary filled in a report of its chairman's and ' secretary's names for the Sleectmen's files. A Report of an accident was made by the Superintendent: "Report of Accident" March 9, 1933 - 8:30 A. M. Lowell St. opposite Howard Murphy's Home. Sewer truck driven by John Ferrick with Harry Muise as passenger, while pulling into right hand of Lowell St. was struck in reat of truck by a Cadilac Sedan Reg. No. 357369, Driven by John F. McManus, 64 Tyler Park, Lowell, Mass. , owned by Mrs. R.J.Gilbride, 64 Tyler Park, Lowell, Mass. The right front fender of Cadilac Sedan was badly bent. Pio harm done to truck. No one hurt. Both machines were traveling in the direction from Reading toward Lowell." A letter was received from Lawrence B. Lewis with reference to water in cellar of House #480 Washington St. , Woburn. The Superintendent is to investigate and report at next meeting, ' and also to answer letter. A hearing was held at 8 P. M. for pole location on -2- March 10, 1933. Cont. Franklin St. south side opposite property of C. M. & Z. D. Fox - John Mansfield - and Howard W. Batchelder - No. J.27 -59 -60 -60A & 61. No one appeared. Board signed and approved same. A letter was received from G. H. Voter complaining of water running into cellar at 163 West St. corner of Woburn St. Superintendent to answer letter saying Board will be unable to come to a decision until after Town Meeting on account of finances involved. The Town Counsel, Mr. Davis , advised Board re sidewalk chute in front of First National Store in Heading Square, #204 Main St. He is satisfied with the Bond of •$5,000. furnished. The First National Stores furnished a plan, which is to be approved ' by the Building Inspector. Board voted to grant permit to Town Counsel to draft form. Board voted to construct a manhole to the underdrain in Brook St. near Metropolitan Sewer drop manhole at an estimate cost of $71. 35. The Chairman read and the Board considered the lease of gravel bank of the Meadow Brook Golf Club to the Town. The absence of any term or period of time was noted and the Board felt that a time limit should be inserted. Board considered motions for Town Meeting with Town Counsel. -3- -March 10, 1933• Cont. Board approved and Chairman signed transfer of joint ownership of poles on So. Main St. from Railroad tracks to Stoneham line from three parties to two parties, 1. e. , Town of Reading Municipal Light Department and New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. Board voted to have the Superintendent report in detail all housesin which water service is not metered; also all houses which are not connected with Town Water System. Board assigned projects for coming week: "150' of 6" water main on Orange St. at corner of Belmont St. 260' of 1 1/4" galvanized pipe off John St." ' Board voted to re-appoint Mr. Birnie the Supt. for the coming year.
