Reading, Mass. , Nov. 18, 1932.
' The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called
to order at 7:30 P.M.
Mr. Merrill was appointed chairman for the meeting.
, .Messrs . Putnam, Fairclough, Merrill and Fowls were present.
Superintendent also present.
Minutes of previous meeting read and accepted.
Mr—Putnam reported further on the question of wage adjustment
as discussed by the special committee.
Letter received from Mr. Whitcomb of 49 Vine Street, asking
for itemized bill in connection with sidewalk abutting his property.
Superintendent to send same.
Letter received from J. Elbridge Richardson, Jr. , E. Vernon
' Sillars and Philip Klang, notifying this Board that they will not
consider paying for the installation of drainage on Weston Road.
Board voted to write them acknowledging their letter and stating
that this Board will take no action upon the acceptance of this
street.
Application for granolithic sidewalk received from Charles F.
Gormlie, Elmer B. Nichols, Mrs. M. S. Smith, and Thomas W. Beaman,
located at 36-40 44 - 48 Pearl Street respectively.
Same to be constructed under the Betterment Act.
Board voted to install this year.
Letter received from Weston & Sampson relative to hydrant
rentals. Matter laid on table until next meeting.

Letter received from State Department of Public Works, ,
notifying this Board that the State will share the expense equally
in removing snow from Wilmington Line to Wakefield Line from Dec.
1, 1932 to Dec. 1, 1933.
Letter received from Town Counsel in regard to pension
authority. Board voted to have Town Counsel prepare article for
next Town Meeting accepting the provision of the Acts of 1931 in
regard to this matter.
Board signed Report of Board of Public Works on the Laying
Out of the following roads, to be accepted at the next Town Meeting.
Fair Road.
Parkview Road.
Longfellow Road.
Tower Road.
Board voted to construct granolithic sidewalks on Nos. $ '
and 7 Ridge Road. Same to be paid in cash before constructed.
Board voted to construct granolithic sidewalks on Nos. 94 and
96 John Street and No. 98 Green Street. Same to be constructed
under the Betterment Act.
Petition recieved from Eastern Massachusetts Street Ry. Co.
and Municipal Light Dept. for transfer of ownership from jointly to
sole ownership of Municipal Light Dept. electric poles on John Street.
Petition granted.
Board voted to install continuation of sewer on Dudley Street
for connection of Pearl M. Burgess, provided he is willing to pay
full cost of installation.
Application received from H. Nelson Bates, Nelson Ave. , for ,
water. Voted to install under a 4% Guarantee.
Voted to instruct Superintendent to pnrchase new typewriter.

Board voted to pay $1.25 per hour for the use of plow, horse
and one man, for the removal of snow from the sidewalks this
coming winter.
Board voted to rescind vote, whereby it was voted to pay
extra labor at the rate of 40¢ per hour.
Board voted to pay extra labor at prevailing rate of wages
paid by Welfare Board.
Board voted to lay out Grove Street, from Lowell Street to
Franklin Street, width forty (40) feet.
Superintendent reported progress of repairing sewer line
on Brook Street. Instructed to continue repairs.
Communication received from Bear Hill Golf Club, relative to
their purchase of water from the Town of Reading. Superintendent
to make investigations and estimates of cost of laying pipe and
report.
Board voted to install new water main from High and Lowell
Streets to Grove Street.
Voted to adjourn at 11:30 P .M.
