HomeMy WebLinkAbout1932-09-09 Board of Public Works Minutes -1- Reading, Mass. , Sept. 91 1932. The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called to order at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Hartshorn, Fairclough, Merrill and Fowle were present. Superintendent also present. Minutes of previous meeting read and accepted. Voted to install one catch basin at corner of Hanscom Ave. and Weston Rd. to relieve Mr. Walter Legg from surface water flowing onto his property from the highway. Question of cleaning the square was raised by the Superintendent and he was instructed to continue the sweeping of the square each morning except Sunday. Letter received from the Spotless Street Corp. , acknowledging our request to them to remove the waste cabinets from the square. They will see that same are removed. Letter received from Kingman & Hichardson, suggesting a new source of supply of gravel, located adjacent to Town Forest and New Pumping Station. Placed on file. Request received from Dr. Charles F. Lancaster, requesting . the Board to remove rag-weed from along sides of our highway, to aid those suffering from hay fever. Superintendent instructed to remove same: Mr. Rand from Melrose and his attorney appeared before the Board and reouested hearing and acceptance by the Board of Survey of Bates Ave. as per plan presented. Superintendent to advertise a hearing to be held Sept. 30th at 8 P .M. Voted to tie in gutter opposite residence of Earl Hutchinson on Elliott Street. -2- Sept. 9, 1932 Cont. , Board voted to remove present V. C. Sewer Pipe from Smith Ave. to the culvert on Eaton St. and replace with 101 Cast Iron Pipe. This is made necessary due to the leaks in the present pipe.. - Mr. Harold K. Veazie, 48 John St. , appeared before the Board and requested them to installabout181 of Curbing in . front of his property. Same was voted with the condition that he pay half the cost, in advance. Superintendent instructed to purchase his requirements in cloth hose for use in the Sewer Dept. Meeting. pdjourned at 9:15 P.M. A True Record:- , Attest:- Robert E. Fowle SECRETARY.
