HomeMy WebLinkAbout1932-07-08 Board of Public Works Minutes ' Reading, Mass. , July 8, 1932. The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called to order at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Hartshorn, Fairclough, Merrill and Fowls were present. Superintendent also present. . Minutes . of previous meeting read and accepted. Motion made and seconded that Reading Square be constructed of a forty-foot strip of cement from State Highway north of the Square to Haven Street, with the balance of the Square of bituminous macadam. Messrs. Hartshorn, Merrill & Fowls voted in favor and Mr. Fairclough voted in opposition. Motion made and seconded that the forty-foot strip of cement, ' through Reading`Square from the State Highway north of the Square to Haven St. , be constructed by the State Department of Public Works at a cost, not to exceed ex+timate presented by the State Engineer. So Voted unanimously. Motion made and seconded that the Town do the drainage work and complete the reconstruction of Reading Square with bituminous macadam. So Voted unanimously. Bids received from the following for Metal Culvert for. - drainage in Reading Square:- N. E. Metal Culvert Co. Berger Metal Culbert Co. of N. E. N. E. Bolt Co. ' Copies filed herewith. Voted to purchase 560' of 12" Metal Culvert from N. E. Bolt Co. at a price of $1.08 per ft. plus bands at $1.08 each. July 8, 1932 Cont. Bids received from following on re-inforced concrete Pipe for drainage in Reading Square:- ' Fred F. Smith, Wendell Bancroft & Co. N. E. Concrete Pipe Co. Bids filed herewith. - Voted to purchase 47$1 of 12" Re-inforced Concrete Pipe from Wendell-Bancroft & Co. , at price of 532 per ft. less 2%- 10 days . Also 2751 of 12" Plain Concrete Pipe from N. E. Concrete Pipe Corp. at price of 29J2 per ft. less 20-10 days . Contract of Stayley B. Hamilton for the drilling of 12 new wells approved and signed. Order for sidewalk assessment on Vine St. signed. - Board signed order for side assessments on property of following:- , Annie C. Weston 20 Locust St. Clarence L. Thonas 106 Bancroft Ave. Ellen C. Wilson 54 Woburn St. Phebe A. Kershaw 2 Pearl St. • H. K. & B. L. Veazie - 17 John St. Voted to install new retaining wall over brook at Memorial Park at a cost of approximately $100.00. Application received from Robert E. Fowls for corner curbing on the north-east corner of Woodward Ave. and Vine St Placed on file. Application received from Frank M. Merrill for corner curbing on the east corner of Vine & Vine Sts. Application received from Otis B. Ruggles for corner curbing on the south corner of High and Vine Sts. Placed on file.
