HomeMy WebLinkAbout1932-05-27 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , May 27, 1932 The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called to order at7 1 30 P .M. All Members and the Superintendent were present. Minutes of previous meeting read and accepted. Letter received from School Committee, with further reference to pedestrian traffic on Mineral Street Bridge. - Letter received from Boston & Maine R-.R. , stating that new Crossing Warning Sign Discs at Ash St. , High St . , and Arlington St. was needed. Board voted to install. Voted to resurface sidewalks as listed in Report of May 13, 1932. Contract awarded to T. A. Mulroney, Stoneham, at price of 55¢ per sq. yd. Letter received from Town Counsel relative to the liability of ' the owner of premises for the payment of water bills. Placed ' on file. Board voted toiequest the Town Counsel to take the necessary steps for the collection of the water bill of the Reeding Soft Water Laundry, Inc. Superintendent submitted samples of water pipes removed from the Reading Square, which had been under the g?ound for forty-two (42) and thirty-eight (38) years and appeared to be in excellent condition. Board votednotto replace any of the present connections. Rules And Regulations governing the use of Tennis Courts at Memorial Park and Birch Meadow discussed. Superintendent to have same printed and posted in an appropriate place. ' Letter received from Weston & Sampson, submitting the cost of a report on a complete drainage system for the swampy areas tributary to Lake Ouannapowitt. Superintendent instructed to send copy of letter to Finance Committee, and state that this -2- May 27, 1932- Cont. ' Board does not favor expenditure of this money at this time. Superintendent submitted report of construction and completion of new suction main "Line C." Copy filed herewith. Board voted to penetrate approximately 8,888,. yds. on Forest St. with Tarvia B at an approximate cost of $483.75. Board voted to replace cesspool on property of Felix Arsenault, 5 Longwood Rd. , which was destroyed during the construction of said road. Board requested the Secretary to consult with the Reading Woman's Club' Chairman of Playground Committee, as to their- financial requirements for the coming season. Petition received from the New England Tel. & Tel. Co. for permission to remove five (5) poles on Lowell St. , as per Plan. ' Petition granted. Letter received from Town Counsel relative to the authority of the Board of Survey to regulate frontages of lots in newly developed land. Secretary to write the Planning Board relative to the preparation of an article to be inserted in the Warrant at the next Town Meeting, governing the matter. Invitation received from Reading Chronicle, inviting the Board to inspect their new plant on Saturday, May 28, 1932. BOARD signed a plan showing proposed conduit enlargement and new conduit locations in Pleasant St. , Woburn, Main and Salem Sts. Board adjourned at 9:40 P.M. , A True Record:- Attest:- Robert E.
