HomeMy WebLinkAbout1932-01-08 Board of Public Works Minutes -1- ' Reading, Mass,:, January 8, 1932. The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works called to order at 7:30 P.M. All members and the Superintendent were present. Minutes of December 28th meeting read and accepted. Hearing held at 7:30 P .M. by Board of Public Works on Hillside Road, as approved by Board of Survey, running from Main St. to Grand View Road. Two abutters appeared in favor. Board approved layout. Hearing held at 7:45 P .M. by Board of Survey on Longwood Rd. lay out. One abutter appeared against plan; five other abutters appeared in favor. Abutters to buy lot of Mr. O'Rourke, if possible to do so. at a reasonable price. A Hearing of the Board of Survey was held at 8:05 P .M. on the lay out of Winthrop Ave. from Tower Rd. to about. 200' north towards Hartshorn St. Three abutters. appeared in favor of lay out. Board approved lay out. Hearing held at 8:10 P.M. by Board of Public Works on Winthrop Ave. , as approved by Board of Survey, which runs to a point approximately 200' north of Tower Rd. Board to sign plan. Mr. Rand filed plans of proposed lay out of Longfellow Rd. and Garland St. Hearing to be held January 29th by the Board of Survey. - Mr. Norman Duncan appeared before the Board, notifying us ' that if the Board wished to file a bill in the Legislature, covering Reading Square construction, we should present same before January 16th. -2- January 8, 1932 Cont. Mr. O'Rourke appeared before the Board, relative to the ' hearing on Longwood Rd. Board voted to reopen hearing. He stated he is willing to sell the abutters at a reasonable price. Mr. Warren Killam and Doc. Connolly, of the Finance Committee, appeared before the Board. Board submitted our budgets for the year 1932 for their consideration. They invited the Board to appear before them when budget is presented to the entire Committee. Upon request of the Finance Committee the following votes were taken:- That the Board of Public Works favors any payroll cut, providing all other departments receive the same. Answer: No. Two votes for Payroll cut and three against. ' If vote on above affirmative:- A. That the Board of Public Works favors a cut of . . . . . . . .,% Straight. B. That the Board of Public Works favors a cut of . . . . . . . .% unballanced (Staggered) Board approved plan of the lay out of Libby Ave. , which is to be constructed under the Betterment Act. Bill of $2$1.00 from Metal Furniture Co. , covering damages caused by change of sidewalk grade presented. Matter referred to .Law Committee. Hearing by County Commissioners January 29, 1932 at Cambridge; relocation of Haverhill Street. , -3- January 8, 1932 Cont. ' Board voted to permit Municipal Light Board to relocate five poles on Main St. near junction of Pearl St. Board voted not to permit Municipal Light Board to relocate three poles on Shackford Rd. Chairman signed same. Board voted to permit Municipal Light Board to relocate one pole on Main St. corner of Mill St. Chairman signed same. Copy of Town Counsel's Report dated Oct. 29, 1930, regarding the lowering of Quannapowltt Lake, given to the Chairman of sub-committee of the Finance Committee. Board voted to permit Municipal Light Board to relocate 4 poles on Main St. from Hopkins St. northerly,. and 1 pole Main St. , from Summer Ave. southerly. Board adjourned at 1 A.M. Saturday.
