HomeMy WebLinkAbout1931-11-06 Board of Public Works Minutes November 6, 1931. The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works called to order at 7:30 P.M. , All members and Supt. were present. Minutes of Oct. 30th meeting read and accepted. Mr. Steele interviewed Board regarding damages to his store property on South Main St. He estimated the cost to be $300.90. Board referred him to Law Committee. Board instructed Supt. to grade the lawns and raise the sidewalks at # and # Main St. , lowered by the installation of the new sidewalk. Mr. Robert Ham interviewed Board relative to office position. Advised Board would consider matter. Board signed Petition for State Highway of Lowell Street from Reading Square to Wilmington Line. Wilmington is to file a similar petition for that portion of this road in their town. Letter received from Town Accountant revesting Board to file budgets for 1932 - ten days before the end of the financial year. Resurfacing highway in Reading Square and increasing sidewalk appropriation from $8000 to $12000 were discussed. Supt. to report to Board in detail on sidewalks, etc. Board voted to install 190' of 6" water pipe in Virginia Road ' and 280' on California Road at an approximate cost of $716.26, under the 4% guarantee clause. The 78' of 1 1/4" pipe on Virginia Road to be removed and 6" pipe installed when conditions warrant. Board discussed the office conditions at length. Supt. instructed to prepare notices of office hours to be signed by the Board and delivered to the office workers and that failure to comply means dismissal. Otherwise to lay subject on the table for thirty days and Supt. to report to Board the conditions existing at that time. Supt. advised Board that Fire Department was to burn skating area in Memorial Park. He was instructed by Board to request Mr. Ordway to burn a suitable area in Birch Meadow for the same purpose. Supt. presented an improved layout of the widening of Grove Street and removal of corner near entrance to Golf Club made possible through generosity of Charles Loring. Board approved new plan with a few minor changes and instructed Supt. to prepare necessary documents to carry out this project. Supt. to notify the owners of the property affected by the new County layout of Haverhill Street to attend vari,us meetings with the Board starting Friday evening, November 13th, at 7145 P.M.
