Gentlemen:- We assume that you wish to raise the concrete foundation wall, walk and grading for the pumping station at Hundred Acre Meadow a hbight of 6" in order to be safe against any possible high water in the meadow. In order not to delay the work, we have instructed the contractor to act on this basis without having heard from you definitely. Yours very truly, GAS:HBG (Sd. ) WESTON & SAMPSON , COPY WESTON & SAMPSON I14 Beacon St. , BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS July 8, 1931. Board of Public Works , Reading, Mass. Gentlemen:- We enclose monthly estimates of A. P. Rounds, contractor for the pumping station, amounting to $633.25 and S. B. Hamilton, contractor for the driven wells, amounting to $620.50 -- both in connection with the additional water supply from the Hundred Acre Meadow. During the recent high water in the meadow, as the result of the excessive rains in the month of May, the water level reached elevation 93.3 which is one 2-1/2" below the driveway and walk as originally contemplated. This level is also within 8 -1/2" of the doorsill leading to the pumping station. We would suggest, therefore, that the walk venturi meter chamber, grading, entrance and concrete wall supporting the ' brick work be raised six inches. We have received from A. P. Rounds, the contractor, an estimate of cost for this change as follows:- 3 cu. yds. of concrete @ $18.12 $54.36 50 yds. of grading C' .60 30.00 Extension of pipe railing, steel reinforcement, chimney flue, etc. T928. 0 Profit, etc. (15%) 113.93 $1067-77 We would suggest that you instruct us to au- thorize this change.
