The Reading Bicentennial Coma. Ise ion met at the beading, Public
Library, at 8 pm, on ''ovenber 1, 1978. Chairnan filler and members
Barclay, Bishop, zlanchard, _5e Cauley and Proctor were present ,
toget 'eer with Virginia Ada, a, secretary of the Historical Comiesion.

'I he -ilnutes of the previous neeting were accepted as distributed
without correction or additions.
lr8._iill.er reported t at she had spoken to Roger Louanis about
the letters which have been removed by vandals from the new Welcome
sign on the Common. He 'has ordered replacements and states that the
BPW will maintain the project as agreed upon.
Batten has not yet submitted the bill for the plaque for 141
Summer avenue , and it has yet to be Installed by Roy Skinner.
The printer has informed i4rs. hiller that Rooftrees will be In
the hands of the bindery within three days, and will be completed in
two weeks. In any case bills can be processed since the Commission ' s
accounts would not be closed out until the close of the fiscal year,
even though t",e Commission makes Its final report and asks dismissal
at the present November town meeting.
blrs. Bishop reported that the diaries of Emily Ruggles have
finally become available for microfilming., After discussion it was
moved by Jack Kc Cauley, seconded by aurice Proctor, and voted
unanimously t -jet up to "75 be ear-,asked for this project . ::rs. Bishop
was authorized to prepare the manuscript and make t'ee necessary
arrangemcats with fraphic ":dicrofllm of Stoughton, for imc,ediate
prpce as

1. On motion of ':aurice Proctor, seconded by Jack i'Ic Cauley, t 'aat t 'ne
equipment and grodacts acquired by the Cc -,I sion (including tape
recorder, slide Projector, oral history tepee, Tavern Life slide tape
program and photographic record of Plcentennial act lvit ies) be given
to the Reading-Public Library.
2. L,ot ion c - r. Proctor, second by lir. Blanchard, thap the re Cords of
and the responsibility for the 'r,erita-e Trail plaques be transferred
to the Reading Hiatorical Commission.
3. `-otlon by '.r. Proctor, seconded by ;'r. Blano'nard, t'oat the puallca-
tions and responsibility for t'oeir distribution and sale be transferred
to the historical Conr_Ission.
L'Istorical Com,.., Icsion c'oatrman, Jack I:c Cauley, and secretary,
Vir7inia Adae:s, concurred and formal acceptance will be ratified at
their meeting on Vovember 9th.
Distribution sources suggested were the Chronicle , H.F. Charles '
and Winslow ' s. Roth the Pitkin volume and the 3rd grade history are
already beinghandled thus. Audrey Plsarz had arranged some publicity,
especially for the College Club' s third-grade sonograph. Roland
jlancaard will plan a"rood plug" for the publications in the Commis, lonS
wind-up story.
The chairman' s draft of t'ne final report was approved with minor
changes and one important addition.
On motion of Jack McCauley, seconded by Yaurice Proctor it wee
voted unaniT.oualy to add the following: recommended that , at the
appropriate time, the balance of the funds appropriated for the
ia ], aid _ e,_ai "i ":ould 'oe ;Wade available to the
Reading ilEtorioal Commission to carry on these project; especially the
transcription of t'.e oral 'nistory tapes of interviews.
