The Bicentennial Commission met at the Reading Public Library
at 8 o 'clock on February 23, 1978. Present were members Barclay,
Bishop, Blanchard, Proctor and chairman Miller, and Audrey Piaarz,
president of the College Club. Absent were members Farquhar and
McCauley.
The minutes of the meeting of 25 January were accepted as
distributed.
Mrs. Fisarz presented the printing specifications for the
children' s history, How Reading, Crew Uo. It will be 72 pages, 6 x 9,
with 80 lb cover autumn gold, with 8 halftone pictures, sketches
and one map, and will be unjustified. On motion of Maurice Proctor,
seconded by Poland Blanchard, it was voted unanimously to accept the
specifications and offer of Delmer D. Cotreau for the printing of
1000 copies for $1118,00. Suggested copy retail price &1.25.
Mrs. Miller then outlined the specifications for Reading' s
Colonial Rooftrees. After discussion of various details and options,
on motion of Roland Blanchard, seconded by IDfaurice Proctor, it was
voted unanimously to accept the Cotreau specifications, dated 21 Feb. ,
X for 500 copies, with waxed finish, sails brown cover, small print (8/10)
and unjustified margins. It will be 8, x 11, 156 pages with 2 maps
and 73 pictures.
Bids will be advertised for in the Reading Chronicle of 2 March
1978. Complete specifications will be available from Mrs. Miller at
the Library, and all bids will be opened and considered by the Commission
at 8 o'clock on March 15 at the Library.
Mrs. Miller reported that the Board of Public Works is prepared
to proceed with the Lower Common project just as soon as the ground
Is ready.
The Com�ission will meet next on March 15th at the usual time
and place.
