HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-09-08 ad Hoc - Bicentennial Commission Minutes Minutes - 6 September 1977 The Reading Bicentennial Oommisslon met at the Reading Public Library at 6:35 pm on 8 September. Present were chairman Miller, members Barclay, Bishop, Blanchard and Proctor, and College Club Dresident Pisarz and coordinator -chmuch. Absent were conml. :: ion members Farquhar and McCauley. The minutes of t'nc previous meeting were distributed, and were accepted with paragraph 5 open for review. The chairman reported that toe League of Women Voters volume should be off toe press by the end of the month. Rrs. Quimby 'eas talked with Dr. ;?unnelly and had received a statement that the school department would welcome the new "Pitkin" and Incorporate It Into the curriculum. After discussion It was moved by Mr. Proctor, seconded by I•Irs. Barclay aid unanimously approved that 500 copies of t 'ee boos should be turned over to tae Reading 5c'000ls, and t -at the cnairman should determine the commission' s right to make this distribution since the town meeting vote provlded that the proceeds of sales %should be returned to the town. The College Club reoresentatives reported that a revision had been made of the third-grade local history, with the desired focus on Reading, and is ready for re-typing. Discussion of plans for pictures, final approval of the manuscript by the CommiselDn, and procedures for securing cyst estimates followed. Airs. ?arclay will continue as advisor for the Commission. Mrs. Bletiop Dresented the co^aplctcd manuscript for Readlna ': Colonial Rooftree,. She is now Qat'�ering togetoer pictures from which tha Illustrations will be selected. If feasible , c.embcrs indicated they should litre to have both old and current pictures of the houses. It was voted that toe 9om,�isclon secure a legal agreement w'nereby a reasonable number of copies o` the first printing should go to lire. Ble'nop, and the proceeds of sales, up to the amount of the Town appropriation, be returned to toe Town, after which the remaining copies and proceeds should go tD t'oe author, who would retain all use rights, and copyright . The "Common" project is still up in the air. idr. Louaniz is away. Other organtzat ions want to be listed. The warrant for The Upvem ber town neeting closes September 26.
