The Bicentennial Com_assion met at the Readin_; Public Library
• at 8 pm on November 13, 1975. since the c'nalrnan, Mrs. 1-1111ler was att-
ending town meeting Dr. Roland Blanchard presided. ,ec..'cers present were
Bishop, Barclay, Celchar, Foacz�fwr and 1.c Cauley. Air. Proctor was absent.
The minutes of t'ee previous ;:eeting were accented as presented.
The group of young people, led by Ronald Daddario, were on hand
to present Bart of the script for their project , "Tavern Life in Colonial
New England and ales a portion of their slides and commentary. The
Commission members were well pleased with the progress they have made,
and the quality of their photoraphy.
Minutemen representatives, Bruce Aorang, -ajor George Gray and
Capt . David Crockett , together with Wiley Osborn, representative of the
Jaycees, prece :-,ted the proposal for Founders Day activities to be held
22 Aay 1976. 6 copy of the proposal is appended to these minutes.
Included are a parade of ,ilnute and 1111t1a units, exhibit ;on by the
British 10th regiment , and a colonial ball at Camp Curtis Guild sponsored
by the three parish companies, with the usual field day exercises and
crafts exhibits sponsored by t'ne Jaycees.
The program as outlined would provide a suitable opportunity
for public participation in bicentennial festival events, and mark both
the 331st birthday of the town (May 29) and the 200th snolversa!-y of the
signing of the Declaration of Independence (July 4).
�. The Commission wholeheartedly endorses the program as outlined
but does not undertake the financial responsibility since the service
clubs earlier agreed to underwrite the festival program. The ball should
be self-sustaining, and the Jaycees indicated plans for raising t';e
required funds.
There was further discussion after the gentlemen retired from
the „eeting, and t'ue Commission voted to request the chairman to ask for
further details on the matter of funding.
The Heritage Trail c'nairman reported that the order was ready
to be placed for the plaques for the last three 'nouses, and for the three
sites mar'sers (the two mills and Weston's corner). The brochure copy
should be completed shortly.
The ^eating adjourned, to meet next on Dec. 4th, sa-e time
and same place.
