Reading, Mass. , June 5, 1931.
The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called
to order at 7:30 P .M.
All members and the Superintendent were present.
Minutes of Regular Meeting of May .28th read and accepted.
Mr. Roland Perry interviewed the Board relative to arranging
with State Authorities to properly care for the surface drainage
of new state road at the function of Mill Street.
Mr. McLeod's request for Drain for Orange and Belmont Streets,
500 to 600 ft. , costing approximately $1,000.00: To investigate
same.
Mr. Sampson of Weston & Sampson, filed his report on the
six (6) Pumping Equipment Bids, received May 26th, 1931- Same is
' filed herewith. By figuring the effieric on a standard basis in
dollars, he reports $6578.00 for Turbine Equipment Co. on De Laval
Pump; and $6599.00 for Fairbanks Morse pump, and recommended '
De Laval Pump, made by Turbine Equipment Co. Board voted unanimously
to purchase De Laval pump for $7898.00. Mr. Howard of De Laval
was requested to install Sun Switch Board instead of G. E. if
desired. He stated he thought his company would agree to so comply.
Robert M. Merritt of Dudley St. requested continuing sewer
from Deering St. to High and down High St. to Mt. Vernon St.
Letter received from Samuel H. Davis , regarding procedure of
the taking of Angelo Zanni' s land, stating he would attend to this
matter.

Letter received from Samuel H. Davis, stating that Board '
can install tennis court at Memorial Park. Superintendent
reported cost of same would be $1,000.00 and Chairman read
letter on subject from Macasphalt Corporation. Cost of extras ,
such as netting, foundations, etc. , to be approximately $200.00.
Board voted to install the two courts.
Hearing on Smith Avenue Sewer at 8 P.M. Chairman stated
releases must be signed by Mr. Fred Smith, the abutter. Board
voted to install the same.
Application for granolithic sidewalk from Phoebe A. Kershaw,
52 Pearl St. was filed.
Board approved layout for Gas Mains on Manning St. for
Malden & Melrose Gas Light Co. '
Board signed Contract and Specification for Cast Iron Pipe
and Special Castings.
To remedy high cost of granolithic sidewalk construction and
Superintendent to report cost of Wanda Street Construction.
Voted to haul sleepers for 4th of July bon fire and if
possible to use Salem Street sleepers when the Railroad Company
remove them and to allow Legion to use Memorial Park for bon fire.
Voted to adjourn 10:45 P.M.
