HomeMy WebLinkAbout1931-05-26 Board of Public Works Minutes -1- Reading, Mass. , May 26, 1931. ' Special Meeting of the Board of Public Works held at 7-:30 P.M. All members and the Superintendent were present. Eight proposals were opened at 7130 P.M. for the Pumping Station Building: Lowest Bid $6975.00 and Highest $9519.00,- average $8073.00- as shown on list filed herewith. Board voted unanimously to award contract to Albert P. Rounds, Stoneham, for $7447.00. Six proposals were opened at 7:45 P.M.. for the Pumping Equip- ment: Lowest Bid $6900.00, and the Highest $8640-average $6900.00 as listed herewith. Mr. Sampson to study those proposals and render Board his opinion as to what he feels will best serve Town's requirements at our regular meeting June 5th. Five proposals were opened at 8:00 P .M. for Driven Wells: ' Lowest Bids $4943.00 and the Highest $6901.75- average $6079.00- as listed herewith. Board voted unanimously to award contract to S. B. Hamilton, of Melrose, Mass. , for $5270.00. Four proposals were opened at 8:15 P.M. for the Pipe Connections for the Driven Wells, copies of same are filed herewith. Board voted unanimously to award contract to Warren Pipe And Foundry Co. , of Everett, Mass. :- 16 - 12 - 10 - 8 inch pipe @$ 35.60 per net ton of 2000 lbs. 16 n n n 100.00 " It n n n n 12 - 10 - 8 It 11 it95.00 " it Delld 15 days f.o.b. cars - Reading. Mr. Sampson reported three quotations on "Y" and elbows. Board instructed him to purchase the required quantities and sizes, of Lumsden & Van Stone Co. at a price of $345.00 dela in Reading. Copy of this quotation filed .herewith. -2- May 26, 1931. Cont. Mr. Sampson reported three quotations on a meter and ' recommended Simplex meter at a price of $785.00. Board instructed him to purchase same. Board was informed that Venturi meter purchased for present pumping station and still unused could be salvaged at an approximate price of $165.00 complete. Mr. Sampson recommended placing $15,000,00 fire insurance on Pumping Building while under construction and the machinery. _ Board and Mr. Sampson were of an opinion that new sewer charges should be worded after same manner as published rates of Water Dept. , making special rates in special cases. Petition received and filed for a granolithic sidewalk under Betterment Act from John W. and Annie C. Weston, 39 Locust St. ' Order for Sidewalk Assessment signed by Board for Lots 14, 15, 22, and 23 Vine Street. Board voted to meet Thursday at 7:30 P.M. instead of regular meeting night.
